SUNLIGHT SA ADORES RECYCLED OUTFIT BY LOCAL DESIGNER

MBABANE – Endorsing the green movement.

This past Sunday at the Greenlife Festival, designer and fashion enthusiast Sthombesihle Dlamini wore a recycled blazer and hat made from the Sunlight washing powder bag.  His design caught the eye of the South African (SA) brand, Unilever. After Dlamini’s pictures surfaced on Instagram, Sunlight.za saw the pictures of the designer and took it upon themselves to engage him. The organisation posted the talented local’s work on their official Instagram page which has over 8 000 followers. The post by the brand was read, “It’s the talent for us” even including fire emojis. It does not end there,Sunlight went on to hint on potential future endeavours. Sunlight is a brand of laundry soap, laundry detergent and dishwashing detergent manufactured and marketed around the world by Unilever, except in the United States and Canada, where it has been owned by Sun Products now Henkel Corporation since 2010. In SA the brand has joined big entertainment and recycling movements.

Plastics

It’s worth noting that in April this year, they pledged to play their part in recycling plastics. In that same month they aided artists from Cape Town make art from the numerous plastic waste materials on the streets in that city. On Global Recycling Day, they launched their new 100 per cent recycled bottle to try and raise awareness on the impact of plastic solution. It is also worth noting that the event where Dlamini had won his recycled outfit,was all about going green. The festival was created to inspire emaSwati to work green, play green and live green.

It is an affair curated for people to come together and learn how to live healthier, more sustainable lives.  Through this concept, activists, consumers and businesses are expected to connect, build awareness and strengthen relationships in an expansive and engaging green marketplace and this is Dlamini’s play ground as he loves recycled designed. In September he won Best Dressed male at the 2022 Luju Food and Lifestyle Festival with a partly recycled outfit. When reached for comment Dlamini shared that he was really happy that he was recognised by the SA brand because when he designed and wore the outfit, he thought nothing of it.  “I am excited that my work is finally stepping into the spotlight and through going green and looking good, I am inspiring others,” said Dlamini.
