MBABANE- The choral music industry is growing.

Pure Voices Choir has officially graduated from Standard Category to Large Category.  The above mentioned was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of Eswatini National Choral Music Association (ENCMA)Bandile ‘Mzambiya’ Maphalala. The Standard Category is more or less accommodative to developing choirs both musically and administratively while the Large Category is mostly associated with choirs that have grown in terms of development and technical acumen towards the music at large.

competitiveness

“So in the choral music fraternity there’s two categories which differ in their level of competitiveness. So usually, choirs who produce positive results for three to four consecutive years or competitions are usually suggestive of eligibility to compete in a more competitive environment like the Large Category. Formed in 2018, they have dominated the top three with most being position one in the standard category, hence their motivation to step up their musical aspirations and face more challenge so that they grow further through joining the Large Category,” he said. The choir was formally launched in September 28, 2018 at Happy Valley Hotel and it will be joining the likes of His Majesty’s Correctional Services Choir, Mbabane Methodist Church Choir, Royal Eswatini Police Choir and Sweet Sounds among others.

Mzambiya went on to congratulate the choir and noted that they would be the seventh choir under the Large Category in country. “As an association, we are delighted and beaming with inspiration to learn of this development. Competition is getting more exciting in the Large Category after as we are witnessing one of the finest choirs joining that ever exciting and competitive category. We are so proud of Pure Voices for taking such a positive challenge.  Indeed, this is suggestive and indicative of an already existing ambience and synergy between both the choir’s administration and technical team. What an incredible milestone that the Choir has reached,” he said.  He went on to encourage and expressed his excitement about the choir’s growth.

improve

He also urged other local choirs to improve for them to enter the next competitive category, the Large Category. “It takes some positive doing to have a choir transcend to Large Category.  As an association whose vision is centred around being a value - oriented Choral Music Hub, we take pride in seeing our choirs embracing the principle of growth and development because it defines the value at which they see themselves to be having in the choral space and broader arts industry at large. We wish the choir well in its new musical strides. The competitiveness of the Large Choir Category will indeed develop the choir and the choral music standard in the Kingdom even further, soaring them to endless musical possibilities,” he added.
