MANZINI – Our very own Princess of Amapiano Uncle Waffles once more caught the attention of one of the most influential artists worldwide, Drake.

The ‘Started From The Bottom’ hitmaker recently mentioned Uncle Waffles on his Instagram stories and social media has been abuzz since then.  Drake reposted a video of Uncle Waffles behind the decks during one of her sets in South Africa. The ‘Tanzania’ hitmaker shared the news on her Twitter account over the past weekend and shared her excitement of being mentioned by the superstar, whose Instagram account has over 107 million followers. Her Twitter posts read, “Drake just mentioned me on his story,” while the other read, “I’ve been screaming for 10 minutes.”

While obviously elated at this, it is worth noting that this is not the first time the Grammy award-winner Drake showed Waffles some love but the rapper previously left a comment on her Instagram live video and said, “Top DJ, top sound.” In October last year, Drake also did the unthinkable by following Uncle Waffles on her Instagram account after she posted her ‘Adiwele’ viral video which has since gone on to amass over 4.7 million views on Twitter. Many Twitter users commented at this and confessed their love and happiness for Waffles as she has won over many hearts with her stage presence. His latest shout-out also had social media users talking. Many believe Drake’s endorsement will help catapult her to international stardom. “Drake is so in love with Uncle Waffles and you know what? I get it,” one Twitter user wrote.

Praise

Having recently released her debut Amapiano EP ‘Red Dragon, Waffles has received praise from her fans on social media and through streams as her project has over 1 million streams already (various music streaming platforms) despite the project being released a month ago. Her hit song ‘Tanzania’ topped the charts on Spotify and iTunes and amassed over 675 000 likes on YouTube alone as of yesterday. Many social media users felt as though this was a co-sign from Drake. According to bonuscut.com, a co-sign is when an artist, usually someone with commercial success, gives a different artist, usually someone with lower success, a shout-out by acknowledging that they like his or her music.

Successful

Co-signs can also be when those successful artists allow up-and-coming artists to be featured on their songs. Co-signs truly fuel why every artist is commercially popular today. Now this depicts what Drake did as it is a game changer.  Uncle Waffles’ social media numbers have increased over the past months. Just with the mention only, her Instagram following is now nearing 1 million, a feat that has never been witnessed before by any liSwati entertainer. Other international artists Drake co-signed include Jhene Aiko, Asap Rocky and The Weekend.
Waffles is currently on high demand not only in the African continent but even to the world as she is set to headline a show alongside the biggest music stars in the United Kingdom.

Festival

This will take place from June 25-29, 2022 at the Fresh Island Festival on Croatia’s, Zrce beach, a week-long Hip Hop and urban music festival. In only a space of six months, Uncle Waffles has already performed at the Ministry of Sound in London alongside DJ Maphorisa, Davido and Focalistic. From packed stadiums to sold out club shows in Tanzania, Nigeria and South Africa, she has gained love and support from her fans around the world. She is also yet to play at the world’s biggest beach festival in Portugal alongside Burna Boy and DJ Maphorisa. She is also booked to perform at yet another international gig that will be held on July 1-3, 2022 at The Algarve, Portimao in Portugal. This is the world’s number one beach festival.
