MBABANE – Phetsile Masilela has been re-elected as ACAESWA President.

ACAESWA is the Association of Christian Artists in Eswatini. News of her re-appointment was confirmed by Chairperson of ACAESWA’s advisory board Mathokoza Mthethwa.
He mentioned that everything went well in the meeting, but stated that the collective of the association’s members had wished that everyone be reinstated from last year’s executive, given that they all worked under trying circumstances in the past three years. This he said owed to the COVID-19 pandemic restricting some of the planned objectives of the committee.

Responsibilities

He went on to say, “Phetsile Masilela had asked not to be re-elected prior to votes being made, citing that she had too much on her plate with many responsibilities, but the executive pleaded with her to lead the organisation for another term as she has done a great job with regards to leading the association under trying circumstances.” He further thanked every member of the association for attending to vote for the new executive committee and also pleaded with them to assist the newly elected committee going forward. Three new members were elected into the association’s executive committee. They are Bheki Khanyile (Recording Secretary), Sibusiso Mamba (National Organiser) and Lomkhosi Makhubu (Additional member).  The three new members replaced Brian Shabangu, Thami Ndlovu and Mhlonishwa Motsa respectively. In an interview with Phetsile Masilela, she said she appreciated the trust local gospel artists have for her leadership and mentioned that she had to accept the position as she had initially planned not to run for office for another term.

Term

It is worth noting that this will be the second term she runs for office and her time in office will elapse in the next three years. “I feel sad honestly as I did not plan to run for another term. I was not ready to be appointed. However, with the trust and confidence bestowed upon me, I had to accept the position and trust God that he will lead us into developing the gospel genre in the country,” she said. She further stated that during her tenure, she would ensure that the association fights for the artists’ wellbeing, through ensuring that they are paid their royalties. Masilela also highlighted that there would now be Regional committees which would be appointed in all four regions.
