MBABANE – Last hosted in 2018, the Hipnotik Festival is set to return this July.

This was confirmed by the Festival Founder - Swazi Jive’s Sakhile Nkambule. The Hip Hop festival which drew thousands of emaSwati to the event will be different this time around.
In a telephonic interview with Nkambule, he stated that, “This year, things are different. Instead of deciding what experiences people should have, we would like them to be a part of the journey with us.” He mentioned that there was already a website in place for everyone who was interested in being a part of the journey by using the hipnotik.online link. This is where locals can create an account and voice out their thoughts and goals, by participating in competitions which will be held in due course. He further mentioned that there would be a possibility of locals choosing who their headline acts were which can happen through the interaction on the website (hipnotik.online).

Show

With many fans of the festival looking forward to the line-up, Nkambule said the line-up for the July show would be announced soon. According to the Hipnotik website, ticket prices are in three categories. Early bird general costs E200, VIP is at E500 while early bird golden circle tickets cost E1 000. It is worth noting that these tickets will only be available on sale online through the hipnotik.online website until March 10, 2022 which will be this coming Thursday. One of the perks that will come with the early bird tickets include attending the private parties that the festival will be having before the main event in July. The first private party will be hosted at a venue that is yet to be announced to ticket holders on March 26, 2022.
Although the line-up is not out yet, Nkambule urged the festival’s patrons to purchase their tickets early as the prices would slightly go higher once the early bird phase elapses. Nkambule further added that, “We’ve had some great support from people, both local and international so we can expect some collaboration announcement soon but the key thing that we want to support local artists, so everything we do is for our industry and the growth it deserves.”

Supporters

He went on to say, “Because this is a ‘journey’ we want our supporters and friends (community) to be a part of the journey, so once you get on that hipnotik.online website and create an account you’ll be the first to hear every single detail and also participate in our competitions and youth facing initiatives.” In terms of uplifting local talent, he said he was open to uplifting upcoming creatives and not just rappers. This included actors, photographers and food vendors to name a few. Nkambule said the aim was to contribute to the local industry that could support young people and in the near future and concluded by saying they needed all the help and support they could get.

This is what some people had to say:

Lizwe Dlamini – “I am honestly happy that the event is back. The Hip Hop community has lost a lot of creatives in the past and this year alone. I cannot wait for the line-up to finally come out and see who will be performing.” Zipho Tsela – “The last time I attended the festival was when Cassper Nyovest headlined the show and I enjoyed myself. Let us wait and see what Sakhile has lined up for us as Hip Hop fans. DJ Stig – “I always wished that one day I play a set at the festival. I will surely access that link and register so that I see what this year’s show will be about.”
