MBABANE – Fine artist Mcebo Sifundza’s work continues to be recognised internationally.

Plying his trade as Lifa Walls on every social media platform, the immensely gifted Sifundza has impressed an accomplished actor through social media, particularly Instagram. This was after the local fine artist did an artwork piece of seasoned South African actor and businessman Thapelo Mokoena. The portrait is a drawing of the actor holding his glasses and one would swear it is a black and white picture taken using a camera. What is unique about the painting is that it has the South African actor’s own wine (Neo) attached to the portrait.

In an Instagram post that has since garnered over 7 000 likes, Thapelo Mokoena shared the exciting news  with his followers and thanked Sifundza for the painting. His post went on to read, “Thank you very much for this gift and creative genius. You’ve always shown my wine love on the socials and you’ve taken it a step further now.” In an interview with this reporter, Sifundza said he was humbled by the recognition from the seasoned actor. When asked on how the actor noticed the painting, he said he drew the actor and decided to post the painting on Instagram.

“From thereon, people started tagging him (Thapelo Mokoena) until he finally saw the art-piece which has his own wine called Neo. I sold the art-piece to him for E15 000 and it was such an honour for me as my work is being recognised internationally. Plus Mokoena is such a great guy,” he said. He went on to say he then got to meet the actor in Fourways, Johannesburg to hand over the painting. In a later post by the actor, Mokoena also shared another post where he posed with Sifundza and captioned, “Finally got to meet the brother behind the Nero art piece. Brother came all the way from the beautiful Swaziland. A talented fine artist with a great vision. An honour my brother @lifawalls, keep on keeping on.” This is the second most expensive painting Sifundza has sold. The first one was a painting he drew of the late Hugh Masekela. This was in 2017 and he sold it for E20 000. Sifundza has also worked on local personalities drawings with the likes of Gciniwe Fakudze and Kid X to name a few.
