MBABANE - Verified girls worldwide!

The sentiments above ring true for the country’s superstar Lungelihle Zwane popularly known as ‘Unclewaffles’. The DJ who amassed 4 million views on her break out video titled ‘The people are burning’ has been officially verified on twitter. The artist announced the news via her twitter account yesterday. “Verified girls worldwide,” read her tweet when she announced the news. The blue verified badge on Twitter nwxt to an accounts handle lets people know that an account of public interest is authentic. To receive the blue badge, your account must be authentic, notable, and active. Everyone congratulated Zwane on her accomplishment and said this was just the beginning for more upcoming greatness for her.

Notability

There are currently three verified accounts in the country these include the Eswatini Government’s page,!Sooks and now Unclewaffles. When verified one’s account must represent or otherwise be associated with a prominently recognised individual or brand, in line with the notability criteria described. In addition to confirming the identity of the controller of the account, Twitter will verify accounts based on the popularity criteria. While there is no telling where exactly Zwane’s career is headed in terms of success, the artist remains humble and forever attributes her success to God. Her random tweets show that she is steadfast on putting God in everything she does.

The verification comes shortly after the artist’s sold out gig in Ghana. As part of her Africa tour, the artist’s last stop was Ghana where she performed for over 20 000 Ghanaians. If the circulating videos are anything to go by Unclewaffles literally had everyone eating out from the palm of her hand. Shortly before Ghana she had totally shut down Rands in Cape Town. With her trademark ‘Andiwele’ dance the DJ has become a force to be reckoned with. From featuring in global True Love magazine to rubbing shoulders with the likes of Moozlie and Ricky Rick her step into the industry seems i be headed in the right direction.

Account

This publication once reported that Zwane instantly over night gained over 100 000 new followers on her official twitter account. This was after the break out video started circulating. More and more people started following her, she had over 20 000 followers all accumulated in one day. As if that was not enough the young DJ is followed by Drake. Drake is an international rapper. The rapper joined other big names like Black Coffee and well known American Djs. A big music platform in the United Kingdom called, Complex _Uk posted Waffles video and it also did the numbers. The page has a number of artists which include Adele, Beyonce and Ella Mai to name a few. From there only amazing things have been happening for the young star.

Despite the noise and flag hoisting Unclewaffles has done the country’s entertainment fraternity Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) proud. Well before ENCAC would engage in staged short press releases congratulating or acknowledging a certain artist amassing a stage name outside Eswatini.
When reached for a comment ENCAC CEO, Stanley Dlamini said their strategy as ENCAC was not only to compete in their spaces but to ensure that artists perform and present the country in world stages and make a case for creative sectors in international markets.

Platforms

“Our spaces and platforms are not enough to promote and present local talent and this is due to many factors such as professionalism and our population inferiority. Most big countries launch artists from small countries,” said Dlamini during an interview. Being in the spotlight has not come easy for Unclewaffles just like in any other journey she was met a number of naysayers and people who questioned her every move. Twitter came to a standstill when pictures of Unclewaffles surrounded by her management team and popular South African entertainment faces. A large number of people and aspiring feminists started questioning how the singer was only surrounded by males and how one South African DJ was holding or rather gripping too tight on her.

Credibility

It was then that screenshots of how Zwane was signed by her management team started circulating and the credibility of the team was questioned and their intentions with the rising star that is Unclewaffles. When setting the record straight and speaking on her fame for the first time the DJ tweeted that she was happy with the shape her career is taking and her current, management team called kreativekorner. “My moment is being stripped away because now people in my life who helped me and believed in me before a lot of people are becoming affected. Making the decision a few days ago, to no longer handle my social media because I was becoming overwhelmed and hyper focusing on the hate,” read the tweet from Zwane’s now verified account.

She further expressed that she appreciated all the love “above all else, I needed to clarify this. Those are my people who are part of my every day and have really held me down. Let us not touch that part. Even typing this with the feeling that it will still be altered is sad as well, genuinely my people love me,” read the last part of her tweet.

THANDISWA MAZWAI OFFERS FREINDSHIP TO UNCLEWAFFLES

From rubbing shoulders with big South African stars, being followed by Drake, major radio interviews and being literally spoken about every other week receiving a friendship offer from Thandiswa Mazwai seemed surreal for Unclewaffles. In a long sentimental tweet Thandiswa Mazwai of ‘Ingoma’ fame shared that if Waffles needed anything she should hit her up anytime. She further congratulated the artist on everything she had attained thus far. “Mad love to @unclewaffffles I’m such a fan. I cannot dance to that song without doing her moves “nam ayangibiza amathousand” Plus I just saw you are going on tour Mughal…congratulations HAVE FUN,” read part of the tweet in which Unclewaffles responded with a thank you.

Thandiswa Mazwai is one of the most influential musicians on the South African music scene today. She began her career in 1998 with Bongo Maffin, is also known as ‘King Tha’. In 2004, her first solo project Zabalaza album attained double platinum status and her album also got nominated for Planet Awards on BBC Radio. She has also performed in the country once or twice and if anything Unclewaffles has begged herself an entertainment maestro who knows the industry in and out.

SOMEONE MUST LOOK OUT FOR HER - RECORD LABEL

A prominent recording label in the country when reached for comment said, someone must look out and have the best interest for Unclewaffles. On condition of anonymity the entertainment magnet who also runs his own record label said, a lot could go wrong for the star but a lot was actually going well and that was the focus.

“The streets can make and can break you, attention gets to the head and next thing you know, you are old news,” said the artist manager. He further said all that was happening in the young star’s life was now in the public domain and would need proper management. “Before she is a DJ she is human can she also consider regular therapy and certainly keep close people who help keep her grounded,” he said. In closing, the record label owner said the way in which Unclewaffles was signed did raise a lot of eyebrows but he trusted that she was smarter and knew what worked for her. “It was totally awkward the manner in which she was supposedly signed but also that was a private chat between two adults. Hopefully Unclewaffles manages her money and is present at every decision making,” he said during the interview.
