MBABANE -  Fine dining with a twist.

This best describes the event held on Saturday at the MTN Golf Park in Ezulwini. Guests were treated to mouthwatering food and delectable wine from South Africa’s first black female wine maker Ntsiki Biyela. She came to the country as part of a tour her wine brand is taking within the Southern African region and was hosted by The Wine Boutique owned by Lungile Motsa in Ezulwini.

The sudden change of the weather did not deter guests from enjoying themselves while they learnt about wine and food pairing from the award-winning Biyela.
A four-course lunch was served, paired with different blends from the Aslina range. Biyela started off the event by sharing her journey in the wine industry, which began in 2016 but was launched in 2017.

As the first course was served, which was chicken wraps and kebabs waiters moved around the tables pouring the first blend, an Aslina Sauvignon Blanc. The wine expert expressed the importance of making sure you pair your food with the right wine, however, she said people should not be limited by what’s written on the wine bottle. She did this with all the courses that were served on the day. She further announced that she would be launching two new wine blends later this year and also celebrated producing 100 000 wine bottles compared to 46 000 in previous years.

Some of the guests were left in stitches when the Umsasane wine blend was tasted. Biyela shared the inspiration behind naming it like that. She said in the Zulu context ‘umsasane’ was the name of the acacia tree, which is an umbrella like tree that gives shade. Moreover, she said she understood the Siswati meaning and as such she said her wine reflected its meaning, which is where life begins. Lungile Motsa, The Wine Boutique owner appreciated guests for attending as well as Biyela for honouring her invitation. The wines were sold at 10 per cent discount for those who attended.
