MTN LAUNCHES APP WITH ESWATINI TV

MBABANE – Do the most. Last Friday MTN Eswatini at a launch of one of their newest campaigns nameD ‘Do the most’, launched a new service that would excite emaSwati.

The project is in collaboration with one of the country’s leading television stations Eswatini TV.

It is a ‘television on the go’ app to be installed on smartphones of the network’s users. 

Announcing this new idea was MTN Chief Executive Officer Wandile Mtshali on Friday through a virtual expo, on the MTN Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Mtshali expressed his excitement on this new product, which would allow users of the network to watch television on their smartphones using data.

“Previously customers needed to buy a television to watch local content, however, through our ‘Do the most’ campaign they can do it from their handsets,” he said.

He urged locals to share world class content to be watched by the world on their app.

He also highlighted that it was important to note the that the app was reliable in that the network would not buffer and was also affordable to the end user. 

“We truly appreciate Eswatini TV for their hard working in creating emaSwati an app to watch local content. This is a massive milestone to be proud of as a nation,” he remarked.

Furthermore, the CEO said they were excited by the partnership as close to 600 000 emaSwati with smartphones would have access to the app and they wanted to be a digital enabler in the country.

The network conglomerate also announced new and affordable data bundle packages to make viewing easy for the users of the app from as little as E250 for 20 gigabytes. 

Representing the television station was Siboniso Mawelela and Lwazi Dlamini, who shared the vision of the Eswatini TV app. 

The duo stated that the app was intended to enhance the entertainment indsurty in the country as well as to deliver more content digitally.

“The app will not only have videos on demand but it will have live TV, which includes a daily news bulletin,” said Dlamini. He also mentioned that the app would create more opportunities to creatives in the country.

He concluded that as the country embraced the digital migration all smart gadgets were able to use this app, where users would make payments using the MTN Momo Pay platform. 

Facebook users, who were watching the expo could not contain their excitement when the news about the app were announced.

“This is indeed a move in the right direction and we will attain some of the First World benefits through this,” said Thobile Mngometulu.

Moreover, Thabo Mnisi mentioned that he could not wait to start using the app especially because it came with reduced and affordable data costs.
