Ghanaian-born Swazi recording and performing artist, Skinny G is a developing artist under G-Stars Entertainment and Projects.

His music is defined by a unique blend of afro-beats and fascinating lyrics. He redefines modern day artistry, staying true to his western and southern African heritage as he navigates between both experiences.

The artist, whose real name is Emmanuel Sedem Agbenyegah is a multi-talented young man studying Creative Multimedia at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

He stood out and had a promising career in the music and entertainment industry. He describes his music as the future with boundaries of age, sex and religion.

His publishing credits took centre stage in 2018 when he was featured by South Africa’s dynamic Hype Magazine.

He also made it through to MTN Pulse Firefly, which he joined this year to stand a chance to perform alongside Nasty C at the MTN Pulse Firefly Soundstorm, however due to the pandemic it was postponed.

He told STYLE that he was ready to shake the nation with his unique style of music.

(STYLE (S) What inspires you?

SKINNY G (SG): Music is a tool we artists use to tell a story and I use everything that surrounds me to come up with catchy phrases we can all vibe to at the end of the day. That in turn inspires me to bring out the best embodiment of my work.

S: How has your journey in music been since you started?

SG: I have had a great run so far where my music is concerned especially for an artist my age. Putting in so much work into my brand has allowed me to be able to seal a few deals that have led to where I am today.

S: What are some of your biggest highlights in your journey as an artist?

SG: A few years back I uploaded my song on Hype Magazine online and after a month I received an email alerting me that my song was one of the most listened to at the time. That for me being the youngest artist from Eswatini to be featured on the platform was a huge highlight and also having my single titled ‘SODV’ being nominated for song of the year at the SWAMAs in 2020 was another.

S: What lessons have you learnt in your chosen career?

SG: I have learnt that music is not about the fame, however, it is a business that is supposed to provide income as well as to also open other doors for me and those around me.

S: What inspired you to come up with this song title?

SG: It was meant to educate my fellow countrymen about the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence bill that currently exists in the country.

S: How do you feel this song has influenced and inspired people?

SG: With the bill passed in 2018, I feel that my single ‘SODV’ has drawn a perfect picture of how sexual offences and domestic violence happens around us. This has made both the male and female genders more cautious. I hope it continues to educate more people out there, alerting them that it is real and you can go to jail for such an offence.

S: What are your plans for the year?

SG: I hope to release an album this year, which I have been working on as well as two tracks in the amapiano genre.
