AUNTIE MPUMI SPREADS CHRISTMAS CHEER

MBABANE – Merry Christmas!

Although Christmas was different this year with a few activities and limited visits to the villages by city livers, local entertainers took time to virtually wish their supporters and fans a Merry Christmas. A favourite for many, Auntie Nomphumelelo’s videos, who has been popularised by local comedian Mduduzi ‘Mdura’ Dlamini, were shared across social media platforms attracting over a thousand viewers to the original post.

Festivities

The comedian had a properly made up face in the finest apparel ready to celebrate the festivities of the day. She wished her local fans a happy day where they would not lose anything valuable to them as well as to take care. The year 2020 being a tumultuous one, saw creativity among many local artists as they emerged with thoughtful and never seen before content to entertain emaSwati while on lockdown. Mdura came up with the character earlier this year, quite earlier than when the first case of COVID-19 was reported in the country and the character became a favourite for many. Barely a year since inception, Auntie Mphumi as she is affectionately known has gone on to win a couple of awards such as the MTN SWAMAs and the Social Media Awards, which were made possible by Swazi Boy Entertainment in 2020.

Interview

In an earlier interview with this publication, the comedian had revealed that he was not sure as to how long the character would be seen making rounds in the entertainment sector as he believed in his creativity. While he has been obviously known as a stand-up comedian Mdura shared that he was privileged to be able to do different categories of comedy as he has also appeared in a television series in one of the many South African television channels. Besides not being able to work because of the coronavirus pandemic, Dlamini’s year has been seemingly smooth sailing in terms of getting recognised for his work.
