MBABANE – The Eswatini Television, which is the country’s number one  station, will be rolling out new programming this coming festive.

In an interview with the Entertainment Desk, the Communications Officer for the station, Nompumelelo Dlamini said they were rolling out these programmes because it was important to remain relevant to the masses they were broadcasting to.

“Context in broadcasting is everything so we are on a drive to increase local programming in all genres. The new schedule includes two locally produced kiddies’ ,shows called ‘Siyakhula Kids Castle’ and ‘Pookie Panda,’” she said.

She further shared that the institution had two batches of locally produced programmes, which included in-house programming and commissioned programmes from independent producers.

“The commissioned programmes are 21 this season and our season four is expected to run from December 15 to mid-March 2021. Our seasons are segmented into three months each and so Season five of our new programmes will follow immediately,” she added.

She also highlighted that the in-house production also had quite  a number of new shows and returning shows which were contextually  relevant to their different audience segmentation.

“The youth has been widely catered for on our schedule and viewers can expect to be entertained with our new compelling content.  They can expect to see a lot of new faces, people they mingle with in their communities as the content is from as far as Nhlangano, where we have a drama called Simanga (The Tangled Inheritance) and Siyakhula Kids Castle, which is also produced in Nhlangano.

Moreover, Dlamini said it was worthy of note that the availability and increase on local programmes on screen would be permanent.

“Programmes will continue being commissioned subject to viewer’s satisfaction. As an institution, we are looking forward to informing, entertaining and educating the nation through well-produced, diverse, and contextually relevant content,” she concluded.
