MBABANE – You are all winners.

The above statement was shared by the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture, Chief Executive Officer Stanley Dlamini, when he made his speech at the awards.

With this, the CEO was referring to every artist, who had been nominated for the Lockdown Eswatini Gospel Music Awards.

“Being nominated means your work is receiving recognition from the people who nominated you and we take high regard of that,” he said.  The awards, which have been in motion since July 11, 2020, were held at Woodlands in Ezulwini this past Saturday night and saw hundreds of gospel music lovers and artists convene to celebrate gospel music. The show was also attended by the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister, Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga. It kicked-off on a high note as guests and artists made their way down the ‘Black Carpet’ while One Gospel channel’s Millicent Mashile interviewed them.

Nominated artists also rendered brief yet electrifying performances for the guests.  With over 20 categories, members of the All Nations Church were amongst the biggest winners of the night as they took home a collective of three awards each, while another member of the same church took home an award for ‘Best Gospel Duo/Group’ on behalf of Police Gospel Messengers, a group he is part of.

The event was broadcast live on social media on the Association of Gospel Artists in Eswatini (ACAESWA) as well as Destiny Group, who sponsored the ceremony with equipment to record the event as well as the stage and sound hire. It was prices galore for the winners as a E70 000 sponsorship for four albums in different categories was awarded by DEM DEM Group.

Linda Dlamini, who won two awards, which were Best Gospel Album and Best Gospel Artist shared that he was beyond amazed at winning the awards.

“I hope I will inspire every young artist that through hard work you will succeed,” he stated.

Moreover, Fakazi Samuel, having scooped the ‘Best Music Video’ award said he could not believe that the video he had almost given up on, when it was recorded, would win awards.

Meanwhile, afro pop artist Sandziso ‘Sands’ Matsebula and Thabile Myeni won their awards in absentia as they were nowhere to be seen to collect their awards.

They each won Best Contemporary Song and Most Downloaded Gospel Song respectively.
