MBABANE – Ayoba. Local aspiring musicians will be thrilled to know that ‘The Spotlight’, which is made brighter by MTN Eswatini will be making its return for a second season this year and will be launched digitally today. 

The show made its debut last year and saw rapper Llucid taking away the grand prize, which was a recording deal, brand ambassadorship deal with the network giant and a KIA Picanto. 

Speaking to the publication, Penny Bouwer, who is part of the organising committee for the competition, said the second season would be launched today at 6pm on the MTN Eswatini Facebook page. 

Opportunity

Bouwer said they were calling upon all young and upcoming Eswatini artists to shoot their shot at this great opportunity. 

MTN Eswatini seeks to unearth the Kingdom’s hidden musical gems by putting them on ‘The Spotlight’and giving them a platform to unleash their potential.

The first season of Eswatini’s pulsating music talent show kicked-off in the kingdom with auditions being held across all four corners of Eswatini and each region being afforded the chance to showcase their talent for the opportunity get put on ‘The Spotlight’. It had over 800 applicants in total showing up and thirty of them made the cut on audition to advance to the elimination stages.

Sharing his testimony was Melusi Mndzebele, who was part of the top 10 finalists and said joining the competition was a blessing in disguise as he learnt more about the music industry and entertainment as a whole.

“It gave birth to a whole brand of what I am now part of, A2Z_fusion and I would like to urge young dreamers like myself to join the competition and try their luck,” he said. 

Senior Manager and Consumer Manager Meshack Maseko said they had seen tremendous growth from the Season one winner Llucid as well as runners up Yemaa and Oxygen, with their careers being under the spotlight and their brands gaining the awareness that this music competition aimed to contribute towards. 

“Tonight we will be going live on the MTN Eswatini Facebook page and we invite emaSwati to join us for the first ever digital launch party of the The Spotlight season two. It is set to be an exciting evening of awesome performances, informative developments and prizes galore,” he said.  

Crisis

Given the current COVID-19 crisis, Maseko shared that they had adapted to the ‘new normal’, taking the show to new heights by going digital. 

“We are excited to continue to provide a platform for undiscovered local talent, as they too are excited to share what they have been up to during this period. The world may have gone into a standstill, but the music never stops,” said Maseko.

In conclusion, he shared that after the successful execution of season one, they could assure the nation that season two was going bigger and better and will be available for everybody to be a part of. 

There are some exciting new developments that you can look forward to and we encourage the youth to take this opportunity to launch their musical careers.

He stated that they would be sharing the roll-out for this years’ competition, detailing how to apply, audition dates, elimination shows and the newly developed interactive opportunities for the youth to enjoy.
