MBABANE – It has been close to six months since the last gig was held in the country.

On March 27, 2020 preventative measures were put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.

However, with the months having passed by, local events organisers are slowly coming up with new and creative ways to revive this sector, which last had its doors open to the public almost six months ago.

For the first time in six months, Platinum Concepts will host an event on September 6, 2020 at Emfuleni Lifestyle, in Ezulwini.

The event, dubbed ‘The Sunday Hangout Experience’, will take place during the day from noon until 8pm.

The show will be limited to 70 people. Sanitisation and temperature screening as well as registration upon entry for contact-tracing purposes and group social distancing will be effected. Revellers are encouraged to come in their usual hangout cliques.

Strategic

Social distancing demarcations will be observed between the groups as well as performing acts. There will be sanitisation of all close contact and changeover hands-free equipment at strategic points within the event space.

Revellers without a mask will not be allowed entry and everyone is expected to have their masks on at all times.

Khulekani Mamba, also known as ‘Karly B’ and organiser of the event, confirmed the show and further highlighted that failure to adhere to the provisions of the event would warrant immediate removal from the venue.

He also said that alcohol would not be allowed and that all tickets would be sold digitally to maintain cashless transactions.

Necessitated

Mamba said the event was necessitated by the fact that for the past five months, they had been left without an income.

“We have been forced to vacate rented properties because we are unable to cover the costs that come with them,” he said.

He went on to share that they have engaged the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) about the event.

“We have as well consulted with the Ministry of Health, seeking its guidance and assistance in ensuring that the environment remains a minimal risk space regarding the spread of COVID 19. We are still waiting for its response,” he said.

Guidelines

He shared that they were committed to ensuring that the guidelines would be observed in a bid to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

“We must point out that the industry is suffering and we can’t just sit and watch. We acknowledge the importance of working hand in hand with government in a bid to flatten the curve, and we are committed to observing regulations set for similar gatherings. We are just trying our best to survive, to make any possible effort to put food on the table just like we have always done. We have realised that waiting for the ministry to take action for our benefit has proven futile,” he said.

Celebrated

Artists to be featured will include the locally celebrated Samantha Rudd, KrTC, Yemaa, Zwile and Friends, DJs Ntombz and Karly B.

There’ll also be stalls from local vendors who will showcase handcrafts, health and beauty products, accessories and video games.

It is worth noting that as the months progress, other artists such as Sandziso ‘Sands’ Matsebula have revealed plans to host a one-man show and he clearly stated that there will be only 96 attendees for that show, which is set to take place on September 26 at Mountain Inn, Mbabane.
