MBABANE – After enduring a five-month lockdown, where its doors were closed to the public, the Movie Zone Cinema has announced that it will  be opening its doors again.

This follows announcements in other countries that cinemas will be reopening on the same date.

Prior to its closure, the cinema had already started putting in place the guidelines set by the government to curb the virus’ spread; however, it was subsequently closed two weeks later.

The cinema, which is located in Ezulwini, has over the years become a hive of activity on Wednesdays as it is popular among the eight to 14-year-olds range. Speaking to the Entertainment Desk, the manager of the cinema, Sophie Mavimbela, confirmed the news of the reopening.

preparations

She said preparations were already in motion and assured the nation that they would make sure it was safe for them.

“We have already started sanitising and fumigating the cinema in readiness for Friday,” she reiterated.

She also highlighted that people should book seats on time for viewing as the numbers for admission would be determined by the seats occupied.

“We will be monitoring social distancing by leaving a space of two chairs between patrons,” she stated.

She also mentioned that masks and temperature screening would be compulsory when entering the cinema foyer.

Mavimbela said the movies to be be shown will be revealed on Friday as they were still drafting the line-up through the list shared with them through their supplier.

postponed

It is worth noting that the premier of some of the movies, such as Mulan, Black Widow and Avatar, had been postponed from March to September, November and December respectively.

“We’ve been getting ready to welcome patrons back to the cinema since government’s announcement in July. We have taken every step to ensure the safe return of our guests and staff to the cinema with our staff having undergone extensive Covid-19 operations training,” said Mavimbela.  Meanwhile, some patrons expressed their excitement to the news of the opening of the cinema by saying it had been a long time coming and they could not wait to watch the latest movie franchises. Nosipiwo Dlamini mentioned that while at home, she got to appreciate streaming platforms such as Netflix and Showmax, however, only a few latest movies were available.
