MTN BUSHFIRE BRINGS RELIEF TO OVC FAMILIES

MBABANE – MTN BUSHFIRE festival beneficiaries Young Heroes are distributing emergency food and hygiene kits to vulnerable families. 

This hasb been made possible through all the donations that were received during the #KeepTheFireBurning Digital Festival held in May this year. The live stream raised a total of E101 364.25, which was shared equally between the two organisations so they could continue to support the most vulnerable families in Eswatini during the Covid-19 pandemic. The House on Fire Communications Officer, Phiwokuhle Dhlamini, shared that they are inspired by the festival’s #BRINGYOURFIRE call to action for positive change, where the firstever MTN BUSHFIRE digital festival was held to raise funds for the festival’s beneficiaries, Young Heroes and boMake Rural Projects, as part of the festival’s COVID-19 response.

Hygiene

“Since receiving the funds, Young Heroes has been distributing essential food and hygiene supplies to 46 Lobamba Lomdzala Inkhundla families which look after 59 orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC). The Inkhundla consists of Kufinyeni, Lobamba Lomdzala, Luyengweni, and Ngwenyameni Imiphakatsi,” she said.  Dhlamini said through the #KeepTheFireBurning donations, the OVC families would receive essential food and hygiene supplies for three months of August to October 2020 to enable them from fight against COVID-19. The vital supplies include mealie-meal, beans, cooking oil, sugar, tinned fish, soup, face masks, and green bar soap.

She also highlighted that MTN BUSHFIRE attended the emergency homecare kit distribution at Lobamba Lomdzala umphakatsi, where Young Heroes Executive Director Khulekani Magongo noted the continuing support that MTN BUSHFIRE provided through monthly grants of E200 to families that take care of orphans. Magongo stated that the families would continue to receive their monthly grant, as it is envisaged that the food relief would allow them to take care of other basic needs of the children.
