MBABANE – Keeping the nation entertained.  Much to the excitement of many emaSwati, Eswatini TV announced that it would be adding an episode of the much-loved Ekhaya telenovela on its YouTube channel.

This, according to the television station’s Communications Officer, Nompumelelo Dlamini, was a way to entice more people, especially those who relied on internet use to hurry and get the ‘sgujana’ set top boxes. “This was an Eswatini TV initiative and the reason to upload the episode on YouTube was because it was the climax of the first season of Ekhaya, where the story was starting to reveal the main plot of the production,” she said.

It is worth noting that the fifth episode of the series was aired last Thursday and it would only be availed for 24 hours from 8:30pm today to 8:30pm tomorrow.
Flighting is the practice of advertising a product for a period of time, stopping it and then readvertising it for another period.

This marketing/advertising strategy is popular with Multichoice’s Digital Satellite television as they often make other channels available to bouquets that are cheaper to entice viewers for an upgrade. Dlamini said they were quite overwhelmed with the response they were getting from viewers at home.

The series producer, Welile Masuku, revealed that as the first season drew to an end, viewers should anticipate fireworks in as far as the storyline was concerned. “We only had nine episodes for this season and with the fifth one being the climax of the story we saw it fit to try and entice more people to watch it,” she said.

Feedback

Masuku further stated that they were receiving a lot of feedback from people who were already watching the series as they also shared things that they would love to see on the show.
Meanwhile, Thembinkosi Mthethwa, who is an actor portraying the character of Mandla Manyatsi, said the reception from viewers was amazing, although many other emaSwati felt left out.

He said this opportunity to see the action that took place in the series came at the right time and that he predicted the viewership to be astounding on the YouTube platform as well as prompt more people to purchase ‘sgujana’.

On the episode, viewers should expect to see Mandla hot on the trail of the abortionists; however, he may not be ready for what he will discover.
The drama series is set against the backdrop of a rural community beset with challenges that set a hotshot lawyer on a journey to restore order.

The Commissioning Editor for Eswatini TV, Celiwe Dlamini, said the interest of viewers on the series was overwhelming. “The interest from the viewers affirmed us that we are on the right track of turning things around, prioritising home-brewed content and discovering our own stars in the film and television industry,” she said.

Fans such as Bongani Dlamini were already asking, at the time of going to print about the requirements to obtain the ‘sgujana’ device.
Celiwe expressed her gratitude to the viewers who were interested in purchasing the ‘s’gujana’, which she attributed to the production quality of the series. Nompumelelo mentioned that they were already in official talks of commissioning a second season of the series, which would be communicated in due course.
