VOGUE PORTUGAL’S INSTAGRAM FEATURES LOCAL PHOTO

MBABANE – Making international news. If in the last few days you have been living in a cave without internet access, it is likely that this challenge has passed you by, otherwise, you know what we are talking about.

The challenge, which took over social media in the past couple of weeks, inspired reaction from the giant magazine recently.
According to their Instagram post on Monday, the publication had selected some of the best images from this digital phenomenon.
The Editor-in-Chief for the publication, Sofia Lucas said, “The #VogueChallenge went viral, associated with the #blacklivesmatter movement.”
She added that as part of Vogue’s DNA to promote new talent and emerging creativity, the #VogueChallenge was a mirror of the diversity and creativity needed in today’s world.

Expressions

The model Sakhile Simelane told the publication that the moment Will Brown shot the photos, she literally could not wait to get the results.
“I could tell from the photographer’s facial expression that these photos will be great. The energy during this moment was really high. I think we both new that we were about to change the game,” she revealed.

Simelane added that she could not believe the response from the public as it was quite overwhelming.
“I thought people were over these photos because we shot them in December, and with that I was expecting a less overwhelming response, but to my surprise, people were still blown away,” she remarked

She further stated that this made her realise the amount of support she has from emaSwati.
“It really warmed my heart and motivated me even further to do more magical stuff that’s out of the ordinary,” said Simelane.

Dreams

On featuring in the Vogue Portugal Instagram page, the liSwati born model said this made her realise even more that she was moving on the right track.
“It reminded me of my dreams and aspirations. It made them seem real and feasible to me. I was really excited about it, I even posted about it all over my social media,” she said excitedly.
She highlighted that this felt like someone she looked up to had given her a thumbs up, which is something that got her fuelled up and inspired  to go even further.

“I honestly don’t know what it’ll do for my modelling career. It might open more doors, it might not.
Anyway, it’s not the responsibility of Vogue to make my dreams come true, it is solely my personal journey and responsibility,” she concluded. 
She also said she would be happy if the feature would direct a couple of opportunities her way.
Meanwhile, the photographer, who took the photos, William Greaves Brown shared that he was happy that their work had resulted in a small amount of recognition and notoriety.

He said through a recent TikTok trend, which crossed over to Instagram with the #voguechallenge, his work was showcased and shared with the world, allowing smaller Vogue representative pages to share the work.
Vogue is an influential American fashion and lifestyle magazine, with subsidiaries in Potugal, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom, known for its distinctive photographs and high editorial quality produced covers.

The Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture, through its Chief Executive Officer, Stanley Dlamini shared that they were supportive of initiatives that were in line with representing the country internationally as well as those that were in line with the country’s vision 2022.
