SPIRIT: UNITY IS STRENGTH

Unity is strength, division is weakness. This mantra holds true for a group of upcoming artists from different sectors, who decided to join hands as they penetrate the industry.
GCWALA found it interesting and new to have people from different walks of life unite for one goal.
The collective project has ….. members being Sim-Poetic is a brand born and raised in a poetic environment, Manzini born MasterNjalo.
A rapper, songwriter and  videographer, Matsapha’s own Afro house maestro. MuShaido is a DJ, producer (Afro House, House) and photographer, The Pixel genius. Retinas own Naishe, the commander-in-chief of anything visual and Loui Roc is an independent audio artist.
GCWALA had a chat with Loui Roc who spoke on behalf of the team. They also shared their thoughts.

What inspired the whole collective Project?
The undying love of arts and most of all the desire to explore different creative routes within the art, be it audio and or visuals. Our wildest fantasies and possibilities when working together, with respect to mutual respect, passion and dedication made us to be. A DJ, producer, two rappers and a videographer isn’t bad for a team after all, think about it? Avenger’s style... mmmhhh??
Just the idea of the Brethren Spirit, same ‘spirit majita’ even with our creative inputs both individually and collectively.
We’re from almost similar backgrounds with similar goals and aspirations. Spirit is inspired by each member’s energy, together, synced. It’s a Spirit Bomb.

How did you guys meet?
As corny as it may sound, we actually met through music. A fan or a fan situation, through admiring each other’s artistry and all round mutual respect. Frequent gatherings would end up being a creative haven. Developing of new freshly innovative content followed by actual meetings and collaborations on projects led us to this path we on. Some actually go way back since high school.

What makes your sound different from the rest?
We take pride in taking time to try reaching that human perfect with our respected crafts. With the sound, it is a sound that has never been heard before. With its authenticity, you’re a good listen away from being a fan, LOL.  Each of us derives what he feels inside and expresses it through art. MasterNjalo and Sim Poetic with the pens and vocals, Naishe’s visual direction, me and MuShaido’s sound input,  LOL which goes beyond skill or talent.

What feeds your creativity?
Reality, period! What really influences us are the things that happen around us, on a daily basis. Also, nobody can tell your story any better. Our life experiences are the most beautiful stories you can ever imagine. Also, “Quality over Quantity” as the story has always been told. Which goes with finding the closest to perfect balance between substance and still please the ever hard-to-please eye and ear.

What are your strengths as a collective?
Mutual respect, understanding and goal drive.  Each of us is different from the next, that’s the biggest strength. Using our differences as a tool to yield positive outputs. As Sim Poetic would say, ‘to make tea, you need all those different things, ema-tea bags, sugar, spoon, mug, water, energy source, ligedlela nale energy yakho nayo iya-counter… all these to make ‘tea’. Then imagine how near useless each item is on its own when you want to make tea using those different elements which each of us bring to come up with content, both on an individual and collective point of view.

What is your take on the local music industry?
The local music industry is growing. With growth, there is always room for improvement of course and a lot is being uncovered. It is upon us artists and creatives to put in work that not only is good enough but good enough to compete or at least play pick up pace with the rest of the globe, still maintaining true-self of course and that extra effort for the better of both ourselves and the industry.

What would you change and why?
A worthwhile topic. Maybe change the way people consume music. The scarcity of local content on the world wide web, in comparison, is actually disturbing.  We probably need more streaming sites, innovative ideas, create platforms and try doing away with the tried, tested and failed. More Gigs, more money, more life, LOL.

Where do you see yourselves in the next five years?
With the pace we about to start jogging at, I see us in Mars in just about five years, LOL. Five years has a lot of days and months right? If you’re willing to know where we see ourselves in the next five years, you are more than welcomed to join us on the journey. Grow with us and let’s all see where we’ll be in five years, reach out, we got you on socials,  this will sure be fun. LOL.

What advice can you share to other upcoming artists?
Firstly, and more importantly we need advice just as much, do reach out.

Sim Poetic “Fame isn’t an achievement, but growing as a brand and a community, now that’s an achievement.”
The world is your oyster. Best things in life don’t got no price tag, Dream. And it’s a marathon, pace it… and that’s the Spirit.
