MBABANE – Bittersweet!

This was the mood that engulfed the Mountain Inn Conference Room in Mbabane yesterday morning as Lobamba Lomdzala Member of Parliament Marwick Khumalo was revealed as the new MTN BUSHFIRE Festival Chairperson, taking over from the deceased Michael Temple, who was a Senator. The festival had another leader installed and the bitterness arised from the memory of the late Temple, who was referred to as Mkhanyakudze. Khumalo was revealed as the chairperson of Eswatini’s leading festival by the director, Jiggs Thorne.

Before revealing him, he showed emotion, stating that Temple had a vision for the festival and the entire arts industry in the country. In his remarks, Khumalo recognised the media, saying that they were imperative partners in making the festival a success. “We are lucky to have such a strong festival under our constituency. BUSHFIRE is our pride,” said Khumalo. He further said the constituency prided itself in keeping clean as they now had one clean-up campaign every week. Also, during the media breakfast meeting, it was revealed that the festival raked in E45 million this year in the country’s economy. Over 700 staff was hired during the festival and this ranged from waitresses, bartenders and other who worked around the clock. There were 450 securities who were on site.
