MBABANE – Eswatini hip hop artist Illa Penboy, whose real name is Sifiso Ndlangamandla, has come out to question the allegations against him.
Social media platforms have had Illa’s name circulating on them in the past couple of days.

The artist is alleged to have failed to pay a reveller in the name of Martha Muchemwa, who participated in his 4th edition of the Black and Yellow themed party which took place at Sibane Hotel in Ezulwini on October 5 through his events company Successful Events and New Life Entertainment.

Illa in a statement posted on his social media platforms on October 29 said that due to death within his family he had felt that he needed time to grieve and mourn the death of a close family member and thus postpone the prize giving which was set for November 2.
He shared in the statement that a new date would be communicated in due course, however the involved parties seemed to have had a misunderstanding on the matter.

Money

When the Entertainment Desk spoke to Muchemwa the winner of the E10 000 prize money, she said the reason she was getting impatient with the artist was because she was  tired of people asking her about the prize money.

Muchemwa also said she felt like she was being taken for a ride and that there was no prize money.
“I spent a lot of money on the outfit, designing and getting it sewn. That for me showed that I had gone out of my way to show great interest in participating in the competition.” she said.

The alleged winner said she started reminding Illa about the money a week after it was announced that she had won.
Mr Successful events, as he is fondly known to his fans, has come out to defend his brand by saying that he understood the gravity of brands working with people especially for these types of competitions.  He made examples of beauty pageants taking a long time before all prizes had been fully given to winners. He also revealed it was worth noting that they had also chosen someone who would carry the event as an ambassador until the next winner which he said required some logistics that took time to organise.

Fans of the artist have come out in his defence citing the recent event that took place in the musos life. They also felt that the eventual winner of the prize money had over reacted seeing that everything including the postponement was communicated.
Illa made mention that the processes to make payment to the winner were being duly followed; however, it had been the unfortunate turn of events in his life that had delayed it.
The Cheese over Bontjis hit maker shared with this publication that he did not owe anyone anything, this was just an initiative to empower his fans and fellow emaSwati.
