MBABANE – Nothing unites people better than food. The Usuthu Alliance Church Food Fiesta was established last year, 2018, by the churchs’ youth.

The idea came about because the youth leadership wanted to create a sphere of fellowship.

After the first fiesta was successful, it was evident that there would be a second edition, which was also a success.
This year’s food fiesta was held at the Usuthu Alliance Church a few weeks ago with double the number of attendees as compared to last year.
In an interview with Phumulani Dlamini, from the church she said they were happy with this year’s food fiesta and they were still looking forward to having more people participate.

Fun

“It’s been said that ‘church is boring’, and so we wanted to show people, the youth that church becomes boring because we make it that way by not being involved. Expectedly, we had so much fun with the menus and fellowshipping as young people,” he said.
Dlamini explained that they invite people divide them into groups and give them a dish to prepare, and let them explore while using potjie (a three legged pot).

“This year was even amazing as we had the joys and honor of having Mrs M whose real name is Neliswa Maseko of Mrs M’s Kitchen be a part of the event. It was wonderful,” he said.

Mrs M, who is known for her mouthwatering decadent pleasures, was the guest judge, and overseer of the groups who were cooking.

“The event was a success and there will definitely be a third edition. Not only does it bring young people of faith together, but it helps reveal potential and talent. The bonus part is that everyone gets to eat a plate of every dish, and that’s the happy moment,” added Dlamini.
More details for the next session will soon be shared.
