BEST OF FASHION EVOLUTION

Many women can reminisce about the day they wore their first pair of serious high heels and this must probably be around prom time.

The change from loving baggy jeans, not-so-tight shirts and sneakers to wearing stilettos. This is simply and plainly called evolution, just the big bang theory. Poet and MC Nana Sambo is also an example of evolution, fashion evolution to be more specific. From being clad in dreadlocks who worshipped her jeans and sneakers, Nana made a U-turn and became a fashionista and is getting heads up on it all the time. Get to know Nana and what inspired her change and be inspired.

What are your full names? Where are you from? Family and educational background...
Nana Sambo, born and bred at Simunye and grew up at Ngomane and I was raised by two doting parents Lungile Sambo and Nathi Sambo. I am the only girl of two boy siblings Lungelo and Yahweh Sambo, attended my at Mpaka Railway, did my Form I and II at St Michael’s High then completed my Matric at U-Tech High School.

I furthered my education at Limkokwing University Eswatini campus with an Associate Degree in Tourism. I host/MC shows, am a poet, tour guide and an aspiring TV personality. The cut above the rest am a mum to a two-year-old daughter who colours my world daily.

How would you define beauty?
Beauty is how a woman feels comfortable inside, her smile and all the things in her life that make her soul sing. Once she feels that way, how she cares to carry herself in the world, put on her make-up or wear her hair is all a bonus from the person that’s truly inside of her.

What qualities does a beautiful woman have?
Her smile, confidence and  being unapologetic of who and what she stands for. It’s a pity the world has idolised or has made so many definitions of beauty and I am so afraid because a lot of women are consumed so much that they want to change who they really are. Beyoncé is there already, Rihanna is there already...there is not you out there!!! Flaunt that.

Fashion, what does it mean to you?
Fashion to me is a statement! It evolves and you better understand what works with you and make peace of what doesn’t work with you yet it looks good on another woman. I just know what looks good on me and what won’t. I know that I am bold so I push the envelope and take risks. Recently, my girl Ngeti sent me a picture of classic shoes and she said: These shoes no one can rock them but you... so she sent the pair and I did rock them and she got customers (laughing).

Currently, what is your signature style (everyday look)?
Currently, my signature style is colour with my hair or clothing. I fuse both chick looks and the cool tomboy look. Sometimes I surprise myself with so many looks like quirky and nerdy and if I have to say so myself, I pull them off.

Many would agree that your style has evolved over the past year-and-a- half... What motivated that? Please state in full...
Yes it has. As I said it’s how a woman feels inside that she exudes outside. So I think as I am growing I am learning a lot about myself, loving myself, making me my own biggest project. I must say it is the feedback I get from social media that motivates me as well. How so many women reach out to say they love my style? It is so overwhelming at times but  I am humbled by the responses.

Motherhood can be crazy, how do you keep looking sharp in that craziness?
Oh motherhood is a journey filled with unconditional love, tears, compromise, balance and lots and lots of doses of Jesus.
I am a product of people that love me and support me in this motherhood gig. It is not easy to be a mum and balance a lot of things, but I am grateful to my family, friends and the current baby minder I have. They make my life easy  I am forever grateful. To my daughter’s aunt, Nozipho of whom I just invade her space when I bring my daughter to her because I have to go MC a show and will be back late. I never take those moments for granted. In short I have a solid team. It’s important as a mother to dedicate time to yourself as well.

According to you, what is a must-have in a woman’s wardrobe?
Perfect and right sized bra, black dress, black flat shoes, black jacket, black skirt, one perfect fit sized blue jeans and lots of confidence!

How do you keep your skin great?
I use my daughter’s Epimax cream on my face. I mind my own business and I never miss an opportunity to laugh.
