PASSION, ZEAL & FIRE!

Passion is the energy that keeps us going, that keeps us filled with meaning, and happiness, and excitement, and anticipation. Passion is a powerful force in accomplishing anything you set your mind to, and in experiencing work and life to the fullest extent possible.

Ultimately, passion is the driving force behind success and happiness that allows us all to live better lives.
Fisile Mabuza a young and passionate person takes GCWALA into her world as she is not only beauty but also has the brains as she is studying abroad and ready to take on the continent through art.

Who is Fisile?

Well I’m just an aspiring writer who really wants to live life to the fullest! Now, I prefer being called Fisile, my real name. I feel like I have abandoned the person that many people knew me to be. I have grown (and still am growing) into a better me. I am a Cancer baby, born on July 11 and I love my family and my tight circle of friends which God has blessed me with.

What do you do?

Well besides studying, I write often. I am gradually falling more and more in love with writing as I find myself being able to express myself more clearly when I write. I also enjoy modelling especially with photographers  the likes of Mbulelo and Mongezi. I think that they are very talented and they are awesome human beings.

How does it feel being away from home, as you are studying abroad?

It is honestly tough. There is no place like home. Let me just say that there are good sides and bad sides to it. I always miss the food and the people. The dancing and just speaking siSwati or explaining some things that would sound better in siSwati. However, I am very grateful for this opportunity because there is a lot to learn out in the world. Seeing how other people live gives one the opportunity to improve their own home. I feel a moral obligation to improve Africa as much as I can, because no matter how small an improvement is, it is a building block to a larger and more sustainable change that can improve the lives of millions.

Why did you choose your current course?

I chose creative writing because ever since I was very young, I always had an inclination towards writing. I enjoy the fact that you can say one thing in so many ways, and my father has always told me that “it is not what you say, but how you say it”. I realise the power of rhetoric and discourse and I believe that if used wisely, it can contribute in creating a generation that actively drives Africa towards self-sufficiency, which is something we struggle with. If people are told of their power, they will certainly realise it and use it.

What are the challenges you face while at school?

I guess adapting to a whole other society with different norms and values is really something I had to work on. I think Africans and Americans are very different and somehow I have to find a middle ground or merge the two together.

I think I am doing okay, so I guess it’s a minor challenge. Also being away from my family and friends is hard, because no one really loves you as much as family does. So, often I get the sense of being alone. This is life though, sometimes you have to get out of your safe zone to grow.

What was your most embarrassing moment at school?
I have none where I look back and think “wow, that was embarrassing”, LOL.

What advice would you give to a young person who wants to study abroad?
Be open minded, but do not abandon the rules and morals that govern you. Perhaps they may change, as you grow and realise that somethings are no longer suitable for your life but never forget where you come from and who you are. Also have fun, you will probably never see these people again after you graduate, LOL.

What made you venture into modelling?

I always felt comfortable in front of a camera, and I thought why not just try this out!

 What feeds your creativity?

I really appreciate art, especially art that is inspired by pop culture and what is happening today. I also feel that Africa is really my focus, I believe there is so much we haven’t discovered about our beautiful continent. There are so many people, foods, landscapes. I believe that if we really look, we can realise that Africa has so much wealth and content, we do not need to focus on the west. Everything we need is here.

How do you balance school and modelling?

I do not really model, I am not signed to any agency. I just do it when I feel like it. When I am at school, I focus more on school because that is my priority. But when I am on holiday I definitely use the time to take as many pictures as I feel I can.

Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?

I see myself as a published author, and entrepreneur hopefully in the media field. I think there are no jobs so I have to create them, for me and other people. I want to be a boss, travelling, networking, inspiring and creating. The world is in my hands and I just have to prove myself right.

Name three things people do not know about you?
l     I love the beach,
l     I love seafood
l     I tried being vegetarian and it lasted for two days,LOL.
