MALKERNS – A German couple forked out E20 000 for the MTN BUSHFIRE festival.

Alecia Hulley and David Schulz entered the festival’s record books after spending the aforementioned amount during their weekend-long stay in the country.
The middle-aged couple said they arrived in the country last Thursday evening and booked at a lodge situated along the Ezulwini and Malkerns corridor after they had bought their VIP tickets last year.

Schulz said they planned their budget before they bought the tickets as he said they were eager to create a phenomenal experience for themselves.
Among their to-do list, they had planned to tour some of the country’s attraction points and find ideal accommodation that would be closer to House on Fire, where the successful event took place.

“We did our bookings online and since our arrival here, we have already spent about E20 000, with about E10 000 going to accommodation expenses and the rest for our transportation, food and overall entertainment,” he said.

The excited couple said the expenditure was worth it as they loved every moment of the festival. According to Hulley, their highlight was when the Meute band took to the stage to deliver an electrifying showcase that got the whole crowd on its feet.

“They were just brilliant, this was not the first time we watched them together but it was great watching them in a festival that is far away from home. They really performed well and it was such a beautiful atmosphere for us,” she said.

Loved

The couple said besides the Meute band, they also loved Lindigo, Trompies, Sampa the great and ASA. They described the festival as unique and world-class.
“We experienced different cultures in one festival. We got a chance to feel the African culture on stage and also feel other cultures from around the world that were displayed on stage. We also met these cultures in the food stalls and it was just a great ambiance,” she added.

The couple said they were attending for the first time and promised to come back next year. They praised the set-up of the whole event as they said they loved most of the stalls or stages they came across while moving around.

They also went to Mlilwane for a game drive on Saturday before heading back to the show for the evening live performances.
The couple left the country for Germany yesterday.

Meanwhile, the MTN BUSHFIRE continued dishing out excellence to fun lovers as on the last day of the event, colourful artists such as ASA and Tshepo Tshola brought the curtain down with heart-warming performances.

The last act on the main stage was Tshepo Tshola who gave out a show-stopping performance that saw the crowd shouting ‘we want more’ in unison until the co-hosts, Anakhonza Kunene and Phiwo Dhlamini, asked the legendary singer to return to the stage.

Performance

The afro soul and gospel singer’s performance was filled with sing-alongs, dance and emotion-filled expressions.
He was a cut above the rest as he danced with his supporting stick in his hand and communicated well with his band.
A section of the crowd then moved to the Amphitheatre where performances continued after the event was officially closed on the main stage.

The festival attracted over 20 000 fun lovers.
On another note, Tsepo Tshola opened the show with his gospel song ‘We Want to Enter’ to which the crowd loved and sang along to every word. The musician then sang the hit ‘Ho Lokile’, meaning it’s okay which kept the crowd waving and singing.

Earlier during a press briefing, he spoke about his love and passion for music.

“My parents instilled the love of music in me. I am inspired by life and motivated by death.”
Performing classics like Dikgomo and Morwa, Gwangwa drove the crowd to screams of joy and far-reaching applauds.
Although the legendary musician has aged, he gave the performance his all, making the crowd beg for more.
