MBABANE - Eswatini jazz lovers were really in for a treat!

Friday night at the Eswatini Theatre Club saw jazz music lovers being serenaded by the internationally renowned saxophonist Abraham Mennen and guitarist Reza Khota in Mbabane. The duo took over the stage at 7pm where they performed for over an hour. They were then joined by Eswatini renowned saxophonist Zwile Bhemb e during their performance, who blended in like the natural that he is. Their show was dubbed ‘The Really Revered Whole Story Tour’ and they have been doing live music performances across South Africa and  Mozambique. The Really Revered Whole Story Tour promotes the second studio album by saxophonist Mennen featuring all-original compositions.

Style

The compositions and style of Mennen’s sophomore album draws from several rich musical traditions; South African jazz and traditional music, American jazz traditions, free jazz and experimental sounds and textures. Mennen’s music often employs complex rhythmical schemes and illusions, rich harmonies as well as innovative group improvisation scenarios, all anchored by a strong rhythmical groove and drive throughout the music. Leading on the saxophones, Abraham Mennen’s touring quartet includes the same young jazz luminaries that perform on the studio album: Reza Khota on guitar, Ariel Zamonsky on double bass and Claude Cozens on drums with Siphiwe Shiburi. The tour artwork replicates the cover of the album, designed by Grant Jurius.
