MBABANE - New blood! The Eswatini Theatre Club has appointed a new committee and Thembela Simelane has been made the chairperson of the arts entity.

This comes after a voting process which was last month.
The voting was held by the members of the arts organisation.

Simelane, the new chairperson, succeeded Sindisiwe Nxumalo, who was in the committee for two terms as the chairperson, and once as the secretary.
Each term is three years.
Simelane is a lawyer by profession, who is passionate about theatre. He has served in the outgoing committee as a secretary and brings in a lot of experience in the leadership of the club.

The newly-appointed Vice Chairperson is Prosper Mpofu. Mpofu is currently working for MVTel and is hands on in the arts sector by virtue of owning the Jazz Gallery in collaboration with Nelisa Lawton. He is very passionate about the Theatre Club and the arts in general.  He was also part of the outgoing committee.

Secretary

The new secretary is Thembinkosi Mthethwa, the treasurer is Bennedict Bennett and additional members are Maswati Dludlu and Brian Maseko.
This committee has a mandate to improve the face of theatre and the arts in general by attracting more members and sponsors through properly coordinated and attractive programme for the arts sector and the general public. The membership has no doubt that this team will lead the organisation to realise its mandate.

In his speech to welcome the new committee, Simelane, as a new chairperson, requested the committee to work tirelessly and come up with creative ideas to ensure that the club is led and managed properly to realise its vision in a more coordinated way.

Mthethwa, the new secretary, confirmed the new appointments, stating that they were still in the process of making a new strategic plan.
“We have many exciting activities lined-up for our members and lovers of art,” said Mthethwa.

He also added that activities will start today at the venue and it will be themed ‘Karaoke Night’.
