MBABANE - Versatile!

The above word best describes the performance which was rendered by The Mill, on Saturday night, at the Jazz Gallery in the Swaziland Theatre Club in Mbabane. The jazz music ensemble, which is formed of instrumentalists from South Africa and Switzerland, did this while performing songs from their new album titled ‘Where The Wind Blows’ which was released this year. In their performance, they elicited Swiss culture and African culture. The ensemble, played their saxophones, trumpets, bass guitar, piano and drums swiftly, such that it blended together and evoked emotion in the crowd.

Dance

Also, they managed to make the crowd dance with their African contemporary jazz songs. Their performance started just after 7pm and with each song they rendered, they gained momentum. They ruled the stage for close to two hours, engaging the crowd with each and every song rendered. While performing, they gave each other solo parts where they showed-off their skills with their instruments. Their song titled ‘Inkululeko’ stole the show as attendees stood up and danced the night away. Nozipho Dlamini, who was one of the attendees, said she did not regret embracing the cold and attending the show. “From their first song I had no doubt that it was going to be a mind-blowing rendition. I enjoyed every minute of them on stage,” said Dlamini. Into Music Society’s Nelisa Lawton, their host, said she was happy about the attendance.

Enrich

“Our aim is to enrich people with organic music and I am honoured that that goal is being achieved. “The Mill is amazing and they did deserve the opportunity to launch their album ‘When The Wind Blows’ in the country,” said Lawton. The Mill is formed of Marco Muller on bass guitar, Simon Nyivana on baritone saxophone, Florian Egli on alto saxophone, Mandla Mlangeni on trumpet, Siya Makuzeni on vocals, Yonela Mnana on piano and Kesivan Naidoo on drums. They are led by Mlangeni, who said they had been on tour for the past two weeks. “Eswatini is home for us South Africans. We were obliged to launch our album here,” he said on stage.
