MBABANE – ‘Go look elsewhere, I have run my race’  These words were uttered by the former PRO of the Association of Christian Artists of Eswatini (ACASWA), Ronnie Dlamini, following subtle calls that were pushing him to join the forthcoming ACASWA elections, which are scheduled to take place before the end of this month.

The association is on a rebuilding mission following a series of ungodly events that have since tainted the image of the once powerful alliance. The events that were highlighted in the recently tabled investigative report, included allegation of misappropriations of funds and artists not being paid for performances delivered during the gospel Sunday show.

An announcement has been released by the association, urging interested members to join the elections race. According to Dlamini, calls from the membership begging him to join the elections intensified. However, the gospel artist and member of the Amadodana aku Matsapha choir, made it clear that he was not interested in being part of the elections.

“I sincerely apologise to my followers and members of ACASWA, I will not be taking part in the forthcoming elections. They must look somewhere else because I have done my part. I have served for three terms already and contributed to the growth of the gospel music industry and I think the association needs to find fresh people now,” he said.

Dlamini mentioned that there were other commitments that held him back from considering joining the race for a seat in the new executive committee, set to be announced after the elections. He said he consulted his senior advisors before making it known that he was not interested in serving the association anymore. “My family also supported me on this decision. One can wish all those who will be selected a good run while they go out there and work hard to shape up the organisation.  It will not be an easy assignment, they will face challenges but they must keep going,” he said.

Proud

Dlamini added that he was proud of his contribution to the association. He served under different presidents including Mhlonishwa Motsa, Zakhele Ginindza and Mzwakhe Myeni.
Thamie Ndlovu, who was the Secretary General for the disbanded Interim Committee, said he had no comment on the matter but highlighted that all former members of the National Executive Committee were not expected to take part in the elections.
“This was one of the collective decisions of the membership, that the members of the former NEC will not take part in the elections this year,” he said. Most gospel musicians said they were not surprised by his move as a motion was moved by some artists to block the former executive committee members from taking part in the elections. However, most of the gospel artists said they would miss him as he was dedicated and sacrificed a lot for the association.

“I had a great time working with him. He is a goal driven man and a true Christian. He believed in hard work and producing the goods, I am sure the association will miss his contribution. However, this is an opportunity for another capable person to step up and deliver,” Bishop Maculuve said.

Former President Dumisani ‘PD’ Manana was not reachable as his mobile phone was not available on the network while gospel giant and Member of Parliament Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane preferred not to comment on the matter.
