MBABANE – Did you know that impersonating local artists is an offence?
One diehard music fanatic has learnt this the hard way.

This was after he was called by the police following his performance that went viral, where he was impersonating a local talented vocalist, Popzin, whose real name is Liyanda Mkhonta.
The incident was reported to have happened during a show in Matsapha over the past weekend. The fan will not be mentioned as the publication couldn’t get hold of him.

According to an impeccable source, the fan introduced himself at the event as Popzin and performed a few of his songs.
Judging by the positive response from fun lovers, the performance was a hit.

On the following day he was summoned to the Mbabane Police Station, as Popzin’s team had filed a complaint against the alleged impersonator.
Popzin’s Manager, Kenneth Tsabedze, confirmed the incident but was reluctant to divulge further information, citing legal implications.
According to Tsabedze, the fan  cooperated when called by the police and was told about the damage he had caused.

“After getting his side of the story, I personally forgive his genuine act,” he said.
Tsabedze also urged all music lovers to respect artists’ craft and keep on supporting them.
“We really appreciate all of our fans but we will not tolerate people who will violate the law,” he said.
