EZULWINI – Epic night of music and comedy! The Rhymes and Laughter episode held at Happy Valley Hotel and resort, provided an entertaining show for music and comedy lovers.

Once again, the well-attended show last Friday saw the audience witnessing good music blending well with comedy. While armed with a determined band behind them, the likes of Denzel and Amanda Mo, produced charming performances of soulful music. While Mozaik brought some upbeat tempo when he performed songs from his upcoming album titled ‘now here’. He shut it down when he collaborated with KrTC to perform their most loved song ‘Gway’mane’.

The music renditions popped up in-between comedy sets where the likes of local comedians Dr Shakes, Mdura and Smallz cracked ribs with their hilarious jokes. One thing was apparent during this show, Mdura, whose real name is Mduduzi Dlamini, is a comedian whose resume one cannot simply ignore. He is continuing where he left off the previous year-delivering entertaining sets and continuing to set trends with his performances.

The slim-built comedian focused on women, since the world was celebrating International Women’s Day. Mdura had everyone laughing when he demonstrated how some women provided massages to their love partners.
He also found himself in good books when he shared jokes that condemned violence against women.
He further threatened to send the audience on the floor when he hilariously described how being a celebrity has made things difficult for him when he finds himself in a public toilet filled with his fans. He performed after Mozaik’s explosive performance.

It was indeed a night of sophisticated jokes as Dr Shakes, who was the first comedian to perform, demonstrated how his police officer father punished them at home, using the tactics usually used by police officers when dealing with offenders. He also left everyone in stitches as he painted the amusing picture of how he became a comedian, following a litany of promotions in school.

amusing

Energetic and petite comedian, Smallz, crazily forced his way to the stage to deliver the shortest but most amusing set of the night.  The comedian was not on the line-up; however, his cameo appearance saw the audience burst into laughter as he joked about how cosmetic beauty products would go into a hiding if the hosts, Anakhonza Kunene and Karly B would approach them due to their dark complexion.

Smallz also poked fun at some couples among the audience as he said only God made the last.
“You can tell these people do not belong together, this man is just delaying the lady from meeting her soul mate,”he jokingly said.

He was instantly stopped by the hosts to allow the audience to participate in sessions that saw them walking away with prizes such as MTN’s 1 Gig data bundles, airtime and tangible goodies including caps, bags and t-shirts.
Amanda Mo put on a show-stopper performance as the last act of the night, with cover songs from artists such as Bob Marley. Her song ‘Uwami’ ruled the night as it got people singing and dancing along while she performed on stage.
