MBABANE – Jazz music is just diverse! Highly respected in the Southern African jazz fraternity, pianist, composer, producer and musical director Luyanda Madope and his quartet of accomplished musicians proved to jazz lovers that this neat genre is diverse.

They did this play swiftly, playing traditional, contemporary and western jazz with the instruments. They did not sing in their rendition but the songs which they rendered created a serene mood among the intimate crowd.

This happened at The Jazz Gallery at the Swaziland Theatre Club last Friday where they were hosted by Into Music Society. During the performance, Luyanda Madope communicated with the crowd, relating the songs to his personal experiences and dedicating some to his daughter and family. He also engaged the crowd by letting them sing along.

Local saxophonist Zwide Bhembe stole the show when he collaboratged with them and the quartet commended his talent, stating that he has huge potential in the industry.

Madope’s musical team, constituted of bass guitarist Thembinkosi Mavimbela, drummer Sphelelo Mazibuko and trumpeter Lwana Gogwana.
Into Music Society has also hosted South Africa jazz vocalist Gabi Motuba, Qadasi and Maqhinga, Yonela Mnana and many others in the country.
It was the first time for the Luyanda Madope Quartet to perform in the country.

Hosting such artists of high calibre is not new with Into Music Society.
The have hosted Argentina’s Juana and Ariel, South Africa’s Thandi Ntuli, recently the Afro Tenors and many other artists. Into Music Society’s Nelisa Lawton said she was happy to have them in the country. “It was a great performance,” she said.
