ACASWA MEETING STARTS ON A SOUR NOTE

MANZINI – It seems confusion and tension have found a home at ACASWA.

A meeting scheduled to simply deliver an investigative report by the interim committee, started in peculiar fashion  as media representatives were chucked out and warnings against wickedness dominated the Caritas Boardroom, where the poorly-attended gathering took place.

Following a brief delay, the meeting got underway at about 3:45pm instead of the agreed 2:30pm. It did not require much time for the room to be filled with tension as the first speaker, Mathokoza Mtetwa, who acted as a convenor between the interim committee and the membership, announced the beginning of the meeting by reading a couple of verses from Proverbs 18: 1-13.

“An unfriendly man pursues selfish ends; he defies all sound judgment. A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions. When wickedness comes, so does contempt, and with shame comes disgrace,” Mtetwa read from his Bible.
From verse six he read, “A fool’s lips bring him strife, and his mouth invites a beating. A fool’s mouth is his undoing, and his lips are a snare to his soul.”

The verses were received with giggles and murmurs from the obviously curious artists. Most artists were seen shaking their heads in disbelief while others came across as questioning the choice of the verses. While Mtetwa read the verses, Mzwakhe Myeni, who sat alone during the meeting, stood up and went outside, only to come back a few minutes later. There were over 15 artists during the meeting. Among those who attended were three members of the previous national executive committee of the Association of Christian Artists in Eswatini (ACASWA) in Bishop Maculuve, Frans Dlamini and Mzwakhe Myeni. Some of the artists who made it to the meeting were Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane, Nkonsingiphile of Insali, Scara Maziya and Bongani Mvubu. The President of the interim committee, Dumisani Manana, was the next speaker and he thanked Mtetwa for his support and dedication.
