MBABANE – Through hard work, perseverance and faith in God, you can live your dreams.

This adage holds true for history-making Jericho artist, Sqomqom, who after taking three breaks from the music industry, came back this year and scooped one of the biggest awards in the gospel music industry in the southern Africa region.

It has not been smooth-sailing for the talented musician as the latest album that got him a gong at the Mpumalanga Gospel Music Awards (MGOMA) almost did not see the light of day as he said he almost gave up singing for music production.

His reasoning was that the industry lacked the necessary support, which made it difficult for up-and-coming artists to survive.

determined

However, on Sunday, during the awards ceremony in Mpumalanga, the determined musician scooped the award with over 6 000 votes. This made him one of the most voted for artists at the awards ceremony after the voting process was opened In November. Each vote cost E2, which means his followers spent over E12 000 to see him walk away with the award over the weekend.

The award saw Sqomqom walking away with a prize  package that included two nights at Indalo Hotel in Badplaas, an undisclosed amount of money and music promotional deals. He scooped the Best AmaJericho award.
“I am so excited; we thank the Eswatini media for pushing us. We also thank the Jericho community for the support and prayers. This is historic since we are the first Jericho group to be nominated and further win an award,” Sqomqom said.

He said they would be spending the festive season celebrating with their fans through roadshows and radio station tours. He said the tour would go on until February.

“I am planning a fans’ gathering early next year, both in Mpumalanga and Eswatini, I want to celebrate with my supporters,” he said.
