LOBAMBA – The heavy rains that were experienced on Saturday afternoon swept away the Gin and Tonic Affair event.

The white stretch tent, which was erected for the crowd, was left empty when the heavy rains fell in the afternoon. The event was already warming up as DJ Cybos was dishing out the best of house music. The over 150 people who had already made their presence felt at the event had to run helter-skelter, looking for shelter and for some this attempt failed and they were forced to rush to their cars. Many others crammed the off-cuts shelter where the Gin and Tonic was mixed and served. As a result of the heavy rains, the event was halted and many people left the venue. The lined up performances were also disturbed as only three artists ended up performing. The performances started after 7pm where DJ Sabza from South Africa opened the stage. The show ended up concluding at 9:30pm, however, the organisers said they would definitely host a make-up show.

Nomfunelo Nthangase, who is part of the team that put together the Gin and Tonic Affair event, first started by thanking their partners, traders and attendees for braving the rain and showing up. “We worked really hard to try and deliver a unique and successful event for all involved. We acknowledge the fact that the event did not meet expectations. We came across some challenges but are documenting lessons learned and expect that our next event will exceed expectations.

Regardless

“We know that many attendees and vendors spent time and money to show up, regardless of the weather forecast, and we are working on a strategy to make it up to all of them,” she said. Nthangase added that they received feedback during the event and they were committed to ensuring that they hold their event to a much higher standard. She said they would come back with a bigger and better event within the next couple of weeks. The vendors included Imbali gin, MTN Eswatini, Score Energy Drink, Bulldog gin, Gin factory and KWV gin, while food stalls had the likes of the food hut, Smoke and grill, Wii Munch, salad Chef and Phayo’s food. The stalls attracted a number of people and the gin flowed regardless of the bad weather.
