MBABANE - South African organiser has stopped the Mr and Miss Zion event that was set to take place in the country.

Mlandvo Matsebula, of Zion Magazine, who was the prime organiser of the event, received a letter of demand on October 9, instructing him to cancel the event as claimed he stole the idea from Chief Executive Officer of Word Of His Power Trading as Zion Choral Newz, Shirley Qwabe.

In the letter, it is stated that the annual Mr and Miss Zion belongs to Qwabe, while adding Matsebula stole the idea when he interviewed Qwabe for a slot on his Zion Magazine.

“We therefore demand, as we hereby, do cancellation of the slot you wrote about Mr and Miss Zion, and cancellation of the event of Mr and Miss Zion in Swaziland (Eswatini), and cancellation of communication with the CEO of Zion Choral News.

Failure of cancellation of the Pageant Mr and Miss Zion in Swaziland, we will instruct an intellectual property to sue Zion Magazine. You are given five days of cancellation of the pageant you are doing,” some parts of the letter of demand read.

An intellectual property (IP) describes a range of tools that can define and protect innovative creations. This could be an invention or projects, a product name, a logo, a novel, a musical theme tune or the design of a product.
The categories; patents, projects, registered designs, trademarks, trade names and copyright, are among those of Intellectual Property that are recognised in the world.

Matsebula was further warned that should he fail to cancel the pageant, he would be made to pay E150 000 to Zion Choral Newz and legal fees of Africa Legal Attorneys, the firm that has been instructed to deal with the matter.

The pageant was meant to take place on November 4 at the George Hotel but this did not happen as Matsebula had vanished into thin air.
In his response, Matsebula said he had no choice but to cancel the event.

“I met Qwabe and we agreed that I can host the event here in Eswatini or any other country excluding South Africa, but things changed when my event gained momentum. I have officially cancelled the event,” he said.

Even though he did not want to give more light, Matsebula said he was shattered by the latest developments. He further apologised to the nation and Qwabe for the misunderstanding.
When contacted, Shirley Qwabe confirmed that they had instructed lawyers to force Matsebula to cancel his event.
