MANZINI – Nokulunga Dube displayed bravery, class and character as she was crowned Miss Cultural Heritage.

Dube emerged victorious when she was crowned the queen last Saturday night at The George Hotel in front of over 200 people.
After scoring a lower number of votes, the newly-crowned 22-year-old showed no signs of low confidence but instead showed class and bravery as she paraded on the ramp and answered questions posed by the judging panel. Following her name being called out as the winner, Dube covered her face with her hands and broke down. However, she quickly regained her composure as she oozed poise and confidence while the crown was being placed on her head.

The crowning ceremony also saw Temakhosi Dlamini being announced as the First Princess and Takitsi Mdluli as the Second Princess.
The eventual winners were unveiled just before 11pm after a few remarks from Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture CEO Stanley Dlamini, Mrs Africa Finalist Lucia Ochan and Standard Bank’s Charles Hlatjwako, who represented the sponsors.

Meanwhile, Dube said she did not expect to win on the night as she joined because she loved culture. She added that she knew she stood out from the rest but winning was not something she gave a thought of as she said her focus was on enjoying herself.

“The competition was tough; the other finalists were on point. I did not see myself winning especially because I did not collect an impressive number of votes during the voting process.  However, I am happy and ready to teach other girls about the importance of culture and the role it plays in our lives,” Dube said.
She added that the pageant helped her learn more about local culture.

The mother of the beauty queen failed to contain herself as she wept while embracing her daughter on stage.
Zandile Simelane from Maliyaduma said she was overexcited about her daughter’s triumph.

“She was confident but at first she did not seem to believe in herself as she compared herself to the other finalists.  I thank God for this victory. She is an orphan, her father died while I was eight months pregnant and I have been taking care of her since then and I am happy to see her doing well for herself,” She said.

Before the crowning, entertainment from artist Currency captivated the audience while one of the sponsors, Standard Bank, through Hlatjwako, said they were committed in supporting culture in the country. He went on to congratulate the newly-appointed Prime Minister, Ambrose Dlamini.

Attracted

The event attracted representatives from royal families in Mpumalanga and Kwa-Zulu Natal. Sponsors included Essence Salon, who did hair and make-up for the finalists, Macmillan, Puma, Amadi, Sibebe Resort, Euro Campus, Sigeja Couriers, Eswatini designers and Standard Bank.
