MBABANE – If you are a Zionist and your dream has always been to be a beauty queen or king, prepare yourself for some greatness.

Zion Magazine, under the leadership of Mfundo Matsebula, is bringing to Eswatini a very unique concept of Mr and Miss Zion, which will entail Zion Church members battling it out for the crown.

This new concept was launched last week and the 32 finalists are to strut it off at The George Hotel in Manzini on November 4. The 32 finalists constitute of 16 men and 16 women who were chosen by their pastors to represent their denominations in the newly launched pageant.
Matsebula clearly stated that participants will only be clad in their different Zion outfits during the pageant.

“To keep the integrity of us Zions, the finalists will only wear their Zion outfits and not other casual clothes which might compromise us by showing a lot of skin.
“We are excited about this new concept as Zionists because we are also trying to move with the times in a church manner,” said Matsebula. The main objective behind Mr and Miss Zion is to encourage high level of morals, values, principles and good behaviour within the Zionist society.

“This pageant will help to promote and encourage purity and zero exposure to sexual activities before marriage so to be in accordance with the country’s Vision 2022,” said Matsebula.

Also, this pageant is meant to help in fighting, preventing and educating on teenage pregnancies which result in high numbers of school dropouts.
Eswatini renowned Zion artist Scara Maziya said he is proud that Zion artists are making major moves in the entertainment industry.

“This pageant proves that the Zion concept is not a stereotype one as many assume. We are happy that the youth in this fraternity is becoming more active.
“Personally, I will support this initiative as a young Zionists and I hope others do the same,” said Maziya.

Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture CEO Stanley Dlamini said this is the best platform for any society to be noticed.
“Societies are trying to be noticed and today, they use pageants to do that and I applaud the Zionists Society for doing that.
“However, I advise them, to have talks with Pageants Eswatini in terms of giving them a slot in their calendar if they see the need as I see potential in this pageant,” said Dlamini.
