MBABANE – It’s not about the car you drive, it’s about the way you drive it.

Speed was all that mattered, from the screeching sounds of the tyres to the pungent smell from the clouds of smoke arising from the engines, the crowd roared in awe.

Apart from the delicious meat that was devoured by emaSwati at the Eswatini Biggest Braai, which took place on July 22, 2018, most of the fun was centred on the spinning and drifting arena at the Mavuso Trade Centre.

The sounds of screeching tyres and the bustling crowd began at 2pm, attracting a large number of people. People literally leaped from their braai stands and rushed to see the death-defying stuntmen spinning the ‘gusheshe’.

The screams that erupted from the audience were almost deafening. Team Swazi was the first to thrill and a definite crowd favourite for the fun lovers. They were on their A-game, spinning, drifting and sliding doughnuts while the crew performed death-defying stunts aboard the moving car.

During a spinning and drifting show, it is not unusual for the team members to stick their heads or even their bodies out of the moving car to thrill the crowd. However, this time around, it nearly ended tragically for one of the crew members.

One young man, whose name is not known to this publication, fell off the speeding car as it attempted to make a U-turn while he was still holding on the outside of the car. His grip was clearly not as strong as he had hoped it would be because moments later, he was seen crawling with what looked like an injured ankle.

Even as he sat on the ground evidently hurt, the crowd looked on, confused as if they were contemplating jumping onto the arena to assist. However, that did not last long as the car came around and started spinning around the injured man much to the crowd’s excitement. The injured stunt driver refused to say much as he simply jumped into another car limping with friends assisting and the car drove off.
