MBABANE – The love of Eswatini has come at a cost to legendary South African Mbhaqanga group, Soul Brothers.

The group, which rose to fame through their late leader David Mbuso Masondo, has made a loss of over E150 000 after turning down a performance that was scheduled for this coming weekend in Limpopo.

The group turned down the performance because it had been verbally booked for this year’s Eswatini Biggest Braai, which is set to take place this coming Sunday.

All along, music lovers anticipated the energetic group’s performance and they had already secured their tickets to witness their performance at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre in Manzini.

The aim of the event is to raise funds for the Philani Maswati Charity Organisation.
Information gathered is that the negotiations between the event organisers and Soul Brothers started two months ago, and were all verbal.
The group, now led by Moses ‘Black Moses’ Ngwenya, agreed to honour the event, as they had  worked with the Biggest Braai  organisers in previous years. Ngwenya was asked to send a quotation and a contract on behalf of the group, something he did.

A week before the event, the group was informed that its performance had to be cancelled, as the sponsor that had promised to pay the group’s performance fee had withdrawn its sponsorship.
When contacted, Ngwenya said  it was a painful scenario for them as Soul Brothers.

He added, “The band was ready to perform at the event and we had been rehearsing for the past two weeks.  It is  very unfortunate that we had to turn down an event that was going to pay us a sum of E150 000 in Limpopo, South Africa because we couldn’t wait to perform for our fans in Eswatini,” he said.
