TOP MODEL ESWATINI DIRECTOR SCOOPS AFRICAN ICON AWARD

MBABANE – Shaping the youth’s future might not only land you in society’s good books but it can also earn you an award.

Top Models Eswatini (former Top Models Swaziland) Director Mbalenhle Manana has been honoured by African Icon Awards 2018 under the honourary category ‘African Icon Youth Ambassador of The Year’. Manana will be formally honoured during the main event which is set for July 6 at Abuja in Nigeria at the Nanet Suites. Manana is one of the 15 Africans who have been selected to be honoured during this highly esteemed international event and she took this award after being selected among a pool of other candidates from the different parts of Africa who are affiliated to fashion and the runway.

The Top Models Eswatini director will be headed to Nigeria with model Niza Siwale to take the award. African Icon Awards CEO Abraham Lawal confirmed that Manana was one of the awardees for this year’s African Icon Awards, however, he did not reveal the financial benefits of the award to this publication. Lawal said Manana became their choice after going though Top Model Eswatini social media pages and the local newspaper profile which revealed their successes. “We learnt that she had groomed a lot of models of which some have made it big in the fashion and pageantry industry,” said Lawal.

Excitement

In an interview, Manana expressed her excitement on being recognised by the African Icon Awards 4th Edition. “This is the first award after I established this modelling agency and to be honest, I did not think that brands of such an international scope would recognise my work as a model scout in Eswatini. For me it was all about promoting my models to make their names known outside  the borders of Eswatini.

‘‘This award also proves that the  models are working hard and making a great name for the agency and the kingdom at large,” said Manana. Top Models Eswatini has big  names under it  like Coralee Vilakati, Snowee Simelane, Pluto Mkhulisi, some of the models from this agency have graced respected  runways like the Accra Fashion Week, Soweto Fashion Week, Fashion Without Borders, Zimbabwe Top Model Africa and many other internationally renowned fashion shows. The fourth African Icon Awards is hosted by Face of Africa, a fashion house that is based in Nigeria; the very same house which nominated Eswatini model Siwale as The Face of Fashion Africa two months ago.
