MBABANE – His Majesty’s Correctional Services choristers can now think of throwing a party.

For their success in the Standard Bank Choral Music Championship, they have been given the E18 000 to share among themselves.
The choir, conducted by Melisizwe Zwane, scooped first position during the competition held last week Sunday at the Kwaluseni Sports Emporium Hall. The choir scored 166 marks to become champions, beating Manzini Choir and the Royal Eswatini Police Choir.
His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) Commissioner General Mzuthini Ntshangase said it was exciting for the choristers who were at their best during the competition.

“I always tell the choristers that they go beyond rendering a performance but should compete. I am happy that they have done exactly that in all the competitions they have taken part in,” he said.
He added, “This is the time for us to celebrate. I will give all the prize money to the choristers and they will throw a party. They have made me proud and they deserve this,” he said.

He said since the Standard Bank Choral Music Championship had passed, the choir was now concentrating on the next competition.
“This competition was just a warm up. We want to win all the remaining competitions and also represent the country in the Old Mutual finals. We will not only be representing the country but we will be going out there to compete and make sure we win,” Ntshangase said.
The commissioner general said another thing that made the choir to compete successfully was because it was consistent.
“The choir has always been consistent and they give themselves time to understand the songs. This makes things easy on the day of the competition. We hope to see more of this,” he said.
