MBABANE – Its only seven days to go.  If you are an artist and have an  interest in being a member of the Swaziland Arts and Music Association (SWAMA) you better register in the next seven days.
The registration which has been going on for the past two months comes to an end on January 31.

Target

So far the association led by Melusi ‘Zox’ Dlamini has registered 220 members and its target is to have 300 members when the registration comes to an end.
The artists were using the MTN Swaziland’s short code platform to register.

Dlamini said so far the registration has been smooth adding that his committee was happy with the number of artists making a decision to go the professional route of being registered.
“Artists have shown their interests of being part of the newly elected SWAMA membership and we are happy,” he said.

He said when the process started; they never thought the numbers would be so high, as most artists just want to work in solitude.
He encouraged those artists who have not registered to do so before January saying they want to have all artists registered before the closing date.

Gigs

“All artists need to join the association. We have great plans for the year and we need the artists to participate.
What artists need to understand is that as registered SWAMA members we are able to secure more gigs for you as an artist and make sure you are not exploited,” added Zox.

Dlamini said since the artists were given a grace period as the registration deadline was extended, he was not sure that it would be extended again. Interestingly, this year as opposed to the previous years where E150 registration was required, this time it was free.
