MAJIKA, BAFANA BODUMO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM

MBABANE – Five young boys are determined to put the local mbaqanga music scene up the ladder.


Mayibongwe Sihlongonyane, Themba Ndlangamandla, Machawe Magagula, Siyabonga Mamba and Majika Mamba have teamed up to come up with a unique mbaqanga sound that according to them will change the outlook of the mbaqanga music scene in the country.


The group has since released their debut album dubbed ‘Umajika, Ama starter’ which consists of ten tracks which were composed by Majika Mamba who is one of the group members.


Talents


The group hails from Mbabane, Mvakwelitje and this will be their first ever album.
“With the rate of unemployment among the youth, we have come together to look at how our diverse talents can help put food on our tables and we figured that we all have a passion for mbaqaga music.” said the lead singer, Majika Mamba.


Mamba also said that through their music they hoped to instill change towards issues that plagued communities in Swaziland.
The group has performed at Mjobhane in Maphalaleni and Mkhondvo in South Africa and they hope to perform around the country this year.
He also added that they hope to work alongside gospel artist Zaga and Sands.


Success


“We would like to collaborate with a few local artists. We have seen the budding success that these artists are experiencing and we one day hope to be at their level,” added Mamba.

Mbaqanga is a style of South African music with rural Zulu roots that continues to influence musicians worldwide. The style originated In the early 1960s.
