SNOWEE: MY SOWETO FASHION WEEK EXPERIENCE

With her sassiness, dashing looks and long legs, she might have caught your attention! If not, then you have never seen her.
Model Nolwazi Simelane, popularly known as Snowee has caught the attention of many with the positive energy that she oozes out! And yes, also for her amazing looks. Not only is she looks but she is also brains.

The beauty, who started off her career with Top Model Swaziland is hastily climbing up the ramp steps in the light of speed.
Because of her humbleness and daring self, she has landed herself on the Soweto Fashion Week runway for the third time!

Recognition

And each time keeps getting better than the last. For each time the beauty joined the Soweto Fashion Week, she got a special role which eventually landed her favour and more recognition.

She has featured last year and this year’s Spring/Summer range and earlier this year during the Autumn/Winter collection.
During her last appearance, she was featured on Selimathunzi, showing a special clothing line.

This time around, she was handpicked among a pool of other models to represent Amour, which is considered a special line, and this aired in the different media houses of South Africa.

Rehearsals

The fashion show was a duration of a week, which was from October, 1 to October, 7.  From the first day to the fourth day the models were subdued into rehearsals, dress fittings.
These four days also entailed a media briefing, which is the one that landed her to be among the three models to represent the Amour range. The last two days of Soweto Fashion Week was the actual fashion show.

Snowee has liaised quite closely with Swaziland’s top model, Coralee Vilakati. The two have conquered the modelling industry in Swaziland and South Africa.

It had become a norm for them to be handpicked during auditions and given an automatic entry.
Not only was the duo involved in the modelling world but they are also slowly incorporating into the entertainment industry, with their last event being the ‘Black Cat’ part which was held at Solanis Lounge in Mbabane earlier this year.

Currently the beauty who is studying at the University of Swaziland in Luyengo is back in class and concentrating on her studies until the exams which are set for December.
Gcwala had the opportunity to sit down with this down to earth beauty and this is what she said to us:

THE EXPERIENCE
This time the show was very fun with models from different ethnic groups. There were few designers this time and lots of models and the show has taken a new level and a greater standard compared to shows like the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and SA Fashion Week. We had a great time, the choreographers and the managing team was warm and welcoming. Compared to last year I give it a 10. More sponsors came through to support the show and I learnt quite a lot. From perfecting my runway walk to posing for the camera as well as the art of designing.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
From other designers, photographers and producers who want to work with me. I also got recognition from the Managing Director of the fashion week himself Stephen Manzini who came to admire my art himself. I was humbled and I must say this fashion week was fruitful compared to last season.

ON MZANSI MEDIA
I did not do any media interview other than being part of the media briefing that was done on Wednesday where all the media houses were present. But at least I got to be aired doing the ramp!

LESSONS LEARNT
I learnt that to be recognised in this industry you should stay humble as ever and good things will come your way. Respect and hard work will earn you a spot in big places. I can not reveal anything yet but I’m going to close 2017 with a bang!
