MBABANE – Hardwork pays and Kokonut Stylist is living proof of this mantra.  Kokonut Stylist, aka Nomalungelo Koko Shabangu, has always been passionate about clothing. She uses Swazi traditional material and transforms it into elegant ensembles and her hard work as a designer has earned her an invitation to yet again represent Swaziland in this year’s fourth instalment of the African Fashion Reception.

In partnership with the African Union and UNESCO the AFR once again will be presenting Africa’s best and most creative designers, producers of shoes, bags, jewelleries, make up, beauty and hair products to the global market. To be eligible to participate, these products must be locally sourced and produced in Africa. Most importantly, they must be produced with global best practice.

Global

The African Union will host the African edition at its headquarters in Addis Ababa. This is usually the first AFR event of the year. The global edition comes up in Paris.
Legendary Gold Limited has been in the vanguard of promoting African Fashion. In its 20 years of operation, it has become the reference point in the African continent. It is the first to take africa designers and models to the global stage of Paris, Milan, New York, London, Shanghai, Dubai, Tokyo etc.

Over the years, it has partnered with the paris based global TV brand-Fashion TV, Ford Models, New York, one of Europe’s biggest retail buying chains, Camera Italian Buyer Moda, Milan, Alta Rome, Pret-a-Porter and UNESCO both in Paris etc. In the last 8 years, it has given African fashion a new direction by propagating it as the new inspiration for global fashion.
Shabangu’s understanding of fashion came with discovering Coco Chanel, whom she thinks is the greatest fashion icon to have walked this earth. She is inspired by Chanel in her fashion journey and believes that she is the reincarnation of Coco Chanel.

Stylists

A total of 30 African fashion designers and stylists were selected to each represent their respective countries at the African Fashion Business Summit.
According to the press release from the African Union Commission, only one top designer has been nominated by the Executive Board of the Africa Fashion Reception to represent each of the participating countries.
This is a build-up for the massive show where each of the selected representatives from the African countries will showcase their lines in Paris in October 2017.

The nomination for Kokonut Stylist came about after the committee saw the fashion house’s profile on social media platform Instagram.
The committee then communicated with their local partner, Nicole Samuels to notify Kokonut Stylist to submit their latest Fashion Look book for review by the committee, it was then that Kokonut Stylist was approved to represent Swaziland.
