MBABANE – A locally composed song has made South Africa star Benjamin Dube the man of the moment in the gospel music industry.

Shongwe and Khuphuka Saved Group’s song titled ‘Amazulu Avumile’ has turned to be a hit song for Dube. Dube recorded the locally composed song during the live recording of his latest album titled ‘Victorious In His Presence’.

The album which comes in a double disc is selling like hot cakes in both Swaziland and South Africa.
On Dube’s new album, Shongwe and Khuphuka Saved Group’s song is the last one on disc one. Most people have been buying the CD just to hear the song.

However, the fact that the song has now been recorded by Dube has not come as good news to the group’s founder and leader Reverend Elias Shongwe.

Recording

Shongwe, who is the composer of the song strongly believes that Dube should have consulted him before recording the song. Noted is the fact that Shongwe and  Khuphuka are not credited as the original composers.

He said he had noted that most artists from South Africa sing locally composed songs and do not accredit the authors, something which should not happen.

Shongwe said the song ‘Amazulu Avumile’ was his composition specifically for Shongwe and Khuphuka Saved Group.
“I am aware that the song is now being sung by Benjamin Dube. I do not have a problem with that. The only thing that is an issue is the fact that I have not been approached nor accredited in the album,” he said.

He said he had already approached Dube’s office and was still waiting for feedback.
He made it clear that he was not against people singing his songs but he believes there are channels which have to be followed.
“It is important that our work be accredited so that we can benefit from the song’s royalties. The song is registered with SAMBRO in South Africa so I should be accredited,” he said.
