SOUTH AFRICA, MIDDLEBURG – She sang in front of over 4 000 gospel music lovers and had all of them on their feet as she worshipped.

Little known Promise Mlangeni left the music lovers wanting more as she sang for the first time with Mpumalanga Praise Choir. Mlangeni joined fast growing South African Choir Mpumalanga Praise during its second live recording. She was recruited by Sipho ‘Big Fish’ Makhabane during the MTN Joyous Celebration show held at the Mavuso Trade Centre in July. Mlangeni had never sang in front of  such a large crowd and had never thought she would one day be famous through her God given talent, until Saturday night. Mlangeni said she was thrilled that Makhabane had followed through on his promise to recruit her into his newly formed choir. Those   who had attended the show  said they were thrilled  at the new edition as her vocal abilities were just perfect.

She  wowed the over 4 000 audience who filled the Middelburg Banquet  Hall, she  led the choir in a song titled ‘Senginikela.’ Her song was part of the  25 songs that were sang and recorded live by the choir on Saturday night. Worth noting was her grand entrance on stage, as she started singing while backstage. As she sang her way to the stage, some of the gospel music lovers were already standing despite that they had not yet seen her. Gospel music lovers know that it’s mostly well-known vocal artists who start their set singing from backstage to get the audience excited. Mlangeni proved her star power on the night as the audience were on their feet immediately they heard her voice backstage,  wanting to catch a glimpse of where such vocal prowess was coming from.

As soon as she reached the stage, she did not waste time as she ushered the music lovers into God’s presence. As she sang, the fans seemed to have been taken by the Holy Spirit, as they praised while others sang  along with her. They did not believe that it was Mlangeni’s first time to stand in front of such a  large crowd, as she owned the stage. The fans felt she was just a dynamic singer and had confidence which some of the singers did not have. By the time her song came to an end, music lovers were still expecting more from her. She also won the hearts of the music lovers with her well designed yellow traditional dress which had the Swazi  colours, and also had  ‘Swaziland’ written boldly on the front. Some felt it would have been good for her to sing another song.

Sipho ‘Big Fish’ Makhabane, founder and leader of Mpumalanga Praise, said she he was impressed by Mlangeni. “She is just too good. She has been with the choir for less than a week but her confidence does not show that. Also, it was her first time to sing in front of such a crowd. Actually she is performing publicly for the first time ever,” he said. Makhabane said Swazis should appreciate this talent, saying more was still expected from Mlangeni.
“She has the talent, and we will make sure that the best comes out of her,” he said. Also performing was local artist Nduduzo Matse, who thrilled music lovers with his famous song ‘Gelekece’. The show which started just after 7pm lasted till the early hours of 1am.
