MBABANE – Young minds are easily influenced and it’s for this reason that every media house has a content editor, to protect our future leaders from bad influence.

However, the Swaziland Broadcasting and Information Services on Friday afternoon had an on air mishap as a song with profanity was played during a daytime show.
This was around 2.05pm when the popular South African Hip Hop Malumkoolkat track Gqi was played.

Clean

It appeared that the station had not checked if this was the clean version that is played on other music channels in South Africa.
As the song played, the word ‘Voets**k’ in its uncensored version was uttered. Soon after this happened the presenter said, “Sowentani Malumkoolkat  (What is Malumkoolkaat doing),” in reference to this obvious blunder. She did not apologise to viewers but swiftly moved on to the next song. This left viewers wondering if the songs that are aired on the station programmes were not verified for air before they went on.

Disappointed

Listeners were disappointed as this suggested that material is not checked before it is made public at the radio station.
The SBIS channel is always blasting away at the Mbabane Bus Rank in the different taxis, and one female passenger upon hearing the song, asked how they were supposed to be comfortable to allow their children to listen to the radio station if such careless mistakes happen.

Making it worse was the fact that it was midday radio not even during night time radio sessions.
The radio station was called and the Entertainment Desk was told that the station’s programme manager was not at work.

Concerned

Upon further enquiry about who else this publication could talk to regarding the matter which left listeners concerned, we were told that for now there would be no person authorised to comment on behalf of the programme director.
The call recipient who preferred anonymity did acknowledge that it was wrong for the station to play a song with vulgar language that is uncensored.
